Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey to see how they fit. Huey is wearing a Euro 54 and Dewey is in a 58 which both look great.

This product is sold in European sizes. Generally speaking, the US chest size in inches is equivalent to roughly 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. But since this jacket style runs a bit more snugly, we recommend buying one size larger, add about 11 points to your US chest size to get the right Euro size. I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.

I’d call the overall cut of this jacket “sport casual”. It is meant to fit snug, but it doesn’t taper nearly as much as sport/race jackets. The difference between the max chest and max belly is about 2”-3”. With sport/race jackets the “drop” from chest to waist will be more like 4” to 8” depending on the model. The overall fit if this style is much more forgiving and will fit a wider range of body types.

Sizing tips for upgrading armor: If you plan to add a back protector add 1” to your measured chest/belly size before using the size chart. If you plan to add chest armor, add an additional inch to your chest measurement.

Our Two Cents

The Dainese 8 Track Tex jacket is a textile version of their 8 Track line. This offers vintage inspried styling in a practical package for cold to mild weather conditions.

Dainese is offering many styles right now that have “vintage” styling and this “tex” jacket is one of the few outside of their leather jacket offerings. There is a similar 8 track solid leather jacket and also a perforated leather jacket. And there is also a mesh jacket with similar styling (but with a different name) called the Air Track (get it… “Air” instead of “8 because it’s mesh…). I’ve listed links below so you can view those if you are interested.

The construction style here is “simple textile”. This jacket has a solid textile shell without venting, so it will be comfortable from cold to mild weather… maybe even warm weather. But for colder weather, the thermal liner included with this jacket is great. It is well insulated and is built to work outside the jacket as a “destination liner”. The construction is like a “puffy jacket” but with only a moderate amount of “puff”. I always like it when motorcycle jacket manufacturers make the removable liner useful off the bike. For a traveler, it means you could pack one less bulky item. And to get another useful garment out of your purchase is always welcome too. This jacket is not equipped with waterproofing materials, and frankly I wouldn’t even recommend riding in wet weather because of the suede accents across the chest. Those are soft and feel like fine leather, so they wouldn’t hold up very well.

The armor included in the shoulders and elbows very robust but comfortable. It’s a hard plastic and foam type typically found in race suits and jackets. The elbow armor extends all the way down the forearm to give great coverage. For optional back armor, this jacket is set up with a fabric pocket built into the inside liner. The back armor pocket takes either of the two back pads listed below. For this jacket, I’d recommend the Manis back protector since it is most similar in construction to the elbow/shoulder armor. And then for chest armor, I’d recommend the Double Chest 2 pc set because it is similar to the Manis back protector. :: Paul, 06-25-19

Dainese says: The Dainese 8-Track Textile Jacket mimics vintage styling in a lightweight textile jacket. Cowhide suede inserts elevate the subdued appearance of the water-resistant fabric exterior. A removable thermal liner keeps out the cold for those chilly winter rides. Remove and stow the liner for when the temperatures are a bit more mild. Or wear the liner as its own casual destination jacket. A jacket-to-jeans connection loop helps keep the jacket covering your torso if you should ever happen to be sliding feet first.
