REV'IT! Prometheus Jacket (SOLD OUT)

The Prometheus jackets are offered in European sizes. The normal formula to convert a European size to a US size is to subtract 10 from the European size to get the approx US chest size, and that works pretty well for this style.

Use the chart I put together below to choose a size that will be big enough for both your chest and belly. The jackets are cut more casually and so the taper from chest to waist isn’t nearly as aggressive as a sport/race jacket, so the belly size won’t be an issue for most, but I put my estimate of max belly in the chart so you can make sure the size you choose based on your chest measurement will be big enough for your belly as well.

The new Prometheus leather jacket by REVIT offers a great vintage style which has a “retro” vibe. The jacket comes with SeeSoft armor in the shoulders and elbows and has the option to upgrade with a back protector. The leather is fabulous!

Almost two years ago we added the REVIT Stewart Air jacket to our site. Its a full perforated jacket in all black with many of the same features as this new Prometheus. The Prometheus is a solid leather jacket and uses the same unique Buffalo hide as the Stewart Air. It is a mid-weight leather with a very soft touch to it. The leather is not as dense and stiff as the cowhide that we commonly see in sport/race jackets or suits. REV’IT calls it out as buffalo hide, but it looks nothing like buffalo jackets I’ve seen in the past. To me, it looks and feels like a very nice, high-quality cowhide. The buffalo jackets I’ve seen typically are thinner, but denser and less pliable and have a VERY shiny finish. Anyway, I certainly don’t doubt what they say, but don’t be put off by the use of buffalo as compared to cowhide, because it really looks and feels great.

The Red/Light Grey color in this jacket looks the most “retro” of the two color choices to me. I remember selling Dainese styles a LONG time ago that had this same color scheme. This style would really fit with those riding cafe or other retro styles. And not only is it a protective jacket but its one that would look great off the bike as well as on the bike. Notice the lightly padded lines across the chest in an upside down “V” pattern. the same padding is in the shoulder area too. It gives the jacket just a little more style. Also, note the LARGE panels of leather rather than it being made of many small pieces. That is one indication of high leather quality and cost.

This is a solid leather jacket without venting features. It has a removable vest-type thermal liner which will give it some more insulation in colder weather. I’d recommend a style like this for three season use. Really all but hot summer use. And if you think you’ll be in rain, bring a rain jacket! I don’t think a nice feeling/looking leather like this would do too well if it got soaked.

The armor in this jacket is REV’IT’s SeeSmart CE level one armor. It is much thinner than the traditional “turtle shell” armor found in most sport jackets. The thinner armor makes this jacket fit and look more like a casual street jacket which will make you more comfortable wearing it off the bike. The jacket is set up for an optional back protector if you want to add it (see below).

The overall fit is casual and easy to fit. The graphic pattern gives it a bit of a sport fit, but it’s not really cut close to the body like a sport/race style. I like this style personally. I’m not so “tough” I can comfortably wear a traditionally styled leather jacket, but this one appeals to me for the retro vibe and sharp styling. :: Paul, 02-16-19
