Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey to see how they fit (Huey is in a Euro 54 and Dewey is in a 58) and they both look great. The overall fit is snug as compared to most European sized jackets we offer. Normally we’d put our mannequins in a 52 and 56.

This product is sold in European sizes. Generally speaking, the US chest size in inches is equivalent to roughly 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. But since this jacket style runs a bit more snugly, we recommend buying one size larger, add about 12 points to your US chest size to get the right Euro size. I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Sizing tips for upgrading armor: If you plan to add a back protector add 1” to your measured chest/belly size before using the size chart.

The overall cut of this particular style jacket is very much in line with many Dainese sport jacket styles. The max belly is about 4” smaller than the max chest which is about what we expect.

Our Two Cents

The Dainese Racing 3 Leather Jacket is a fantastic sport/race leather jacket. It offers standard armor in the shoulders and elbows and then you can add chest and back protection as well. The leather and armor is on par with full race suits. You can choose from a solid leather jacket or a perforated jacket for summer use.

Note: To see close up pictures of this jacket and its features, have a look at the gallery of the perforated version of this jacket.

The overall styling and construction of this race jacket is very robust. The shell of either the solid or perforated version jacket is racing weight cowhide. Its a dense leather which would work great for abrasion resistance. The leather is coupled with stretch materials in the torso and in the insides of the arms to allow you freedom of movement.

One features on this jacket I’ve not ever seen before are the elasticated bars on the back and above the elbow. If you take a look at the larger pictures you’ll see a band of raised leather strips. They look like decoration at first glance but those are backed with elastic and so when you reach forward to the bars, you’ll have extra room across your back. In trying on the jacket, it really works well along with the stretch fabric inserts. I really think the break in period for this jacket will be less because of these features.

Both jacket styles have zip vents in the upper chest and on the sides of the torso, which will move some air. The solid jacket would be the best choice for winter, spring, fall and the perforated jacket would be best for hot summer use. Otherwise the features on both jackets are the same.

Notice the external armor on the shoulders… its quite the work of art really. It looks like leather bonded to a hard plastic under-layer which surrounds the metallic piece in the middle. This fits well over the regular shoulder armor which fits underneath. The whole thing really looks sharp and adds a an extra layer of impact armor in a critical area.

You can add armor in the back and in the chest if you like. The back armor pocket takes any of the three back pads listed below. For the solid jacket, I’d steer you toward the Manis pro armor and for the perforated jacket, I’d say get the Pro-Armor unit to get better flow through of air. You can also add chest armor too (also listed below). With the full set of armor in this jacket, it is a FULLY ARMORED jacket. I’m not sure what else in the store we have that would exceed this package except for one of the air bag jackets. It is really robust! There is a long zipper in back to connect the Dainese pants. :: Paul, 08-02-18

Dainese says: An icon evolves with radical new features and the same dream fit in dedicated models for men and women. Tough Tutu leather with air intakes and perforated cooling zones (perforated versions only) keeps body climate at best. While S1 fabric and Microelastic 2.0 stretch zones in dedicated versions for men and women ensure a perfect fit. Light, flexible and agile to live the freedom of the road.”
