Sizing Information
We checked the sizing of this style with our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. They are wearing size Medium and XL jackets respectively. These are their “usual” sizes and they fit just fine. We also checked the chest and belly of the other sizes and find them to fit OK too. Therefore, we recommend you choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.
Overall, I find this model to run roomy as compared to some Cortech jacket models, but about the same as a typical Tour Master jacket (Cortech’s sister brand). Those with an average to stout build will find a comfortable fit, but those with a thin build and/or those who like a snug fit will probably find the torso to fit loose.
If you want to make a size selection with your chest and belly measurements, use the chart below which lists max chest and max belly sizes for each jacket size. The measurements in the chart are a combination of the manufacturer’s size chart and also the measurements we take on the product samples. After you measure, you can choose a jacket size using the chart that will accommodate both your chest and belly.
Alpha Size | Max Chest Size | Max Belly | Standard Sleeve Length |
---|---|---|---|
Small | 41 | 39 | 25.5 |
Medium | 43 | 41 | 26 |
Large | 45 | 43 | 26.5 |
XL | 47 | 45 | 27 |
XXL | 49 | 47 | 27.5 |

Our Two Cents
The Tans-Am jacket by Cortech is new for 2021. This is a full leather design with styling that could appeal to any type of rider. The jacket includes shoulder and elbow armor and back protection is optional.
I think you’ll really like the feel of the leather in this jacket. It is remarkably soft and flexible, but also has a good “heft” so it’s more than just a fashion statement. Most of the styling queues here are ‘retro”, but with the solid color leather finish, the vertical stripes, and patches, it also has sort of a sport feel also. I haven’t seen shiny gold colored hardware on a jacket in a long time, so that is a welcome new style. The retro vibe and the gold zippers remind me of late ‘70s Pontiac Trans Am’s in gold with gold honeycomb wheels. Yes, my knowledge of those cars dates me, but it really wasn’t that long ago, was it? :)
With some warmer garments on underneath the solid leather shell, I think you could use this jacket well into colder months. And in warmer weather, you can use the zippered air vents on the chest and also in the bicep areas. The jacket has a couple of rear exhaust vents too, which are installed so they double as access to a fanny pocket, which I think is a neat idea to get a dual purpose out of a feature. Overall, I think you could enjoy this jacket for three seasons of the year… all but the very hottest months.
About the armor: Cortech is featuring SafeTech brand armor in their 2020 and later products. The jacket includes shoulder and elbow armor inserts that are CE level 2 rated. The material is a more flexible and “squishy” rubberized material, which I think is an improvement in comfort over past designs using less flexible black solid rubber. The jacket has a fabric pocket for a back protector so you have the option to buy a CE-rated back protector by SafeTech for about twenty bucks, something I’d recommend (see the link below).
Check out the quilting and also the stretch panels behind the shoulders. those look good, but are also functional to allow you to reach forward for the controls easily. And take a look at the gold lining. Wow! :: Paul, 02-22-21
