Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. Both jackets fit, but there wasn’t a lot of room for error in the chest. This style has a bit more of a trim fit than most Icon jackets. We generally advise people to buy the size they normally wear in men’s clothing, and I’d stick with that advice on this style as well IF you like a trim fit and you have an average or thinner frame. If you like more room and/or you have a more stout build, then I’d advise you to go up one size.

Below is the size chart offered by Icon and in the case of this style, I’d say it is just about right. If you measure and use the chart you may well find yourself buying one size larger than usual.

Size Icon’s Chest Est Our Max Belly
Small 36-38 36
Medium 38-40 38
Large 40-42 40
XL 42-44 42
XXL 46-48 46
XXXL 48-50 48

Our Two Cents

The Icon Malice hoody is new for 2019. It’s a fleece material with overlays of nylon in the shoulder and elbow areas. Armor is included for the shoulders and elbows.

I love the look of this jacket. It really fits well… not baggy like a lot of hoody styles. You could easily wear this unit for casual wear and look sharp anywhere. The material used is a cotton blend so it doesn’t look frumpy like a plain ole hoodie and the nylon material on the sleeves and shoulders looks sharp too.

My issue with this hoody though is protection. The material isn’t a type that would hold up well in a crash. Being a cotton/poly blend makes it more sturdy than plain cotton (which will immediately shred in a fall), but there aren’t additional reinforcements of Kevlar (or similar) like you find in most riding shirts. Also, Icon characterizes the ripstop nylon I mentioned as being protective, but it can’t possibly be as it is literally paper thin. D3O armor inserts are included for the shoulders and elbows will give you some measure of impact protection, however.

So given the excellent looks and styling, but questionable crash protection, I’d recommend this Malice hoody as being an option for city riding where speeds are limited, and I think it would be especially nice for those that appreciate a good looking casual jacket. :: Paul, 11-21-19

Mounted within the chassis are removable D3O® elbow and shoulder impact protectors because it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
