REV'IT! Apex Air H2O Jacket

Sometimes, breaking your own rules is just what you need to push your own boundaries. Meet the Apex Air H2O motorcycle jacket. Not only does it have a juxtaposing name, it has the features that do exactly that, too. Let us explain. At first glance, when we use nomenclature like “Air” and “H2O,” we associate it with either warm-weather riding/perforation, or waterproofing. Putting those two terms together seems like an oxymoron. That said, why not have a motorcycle jacket that does both?

Here, we’ve created a garment that has a full mesh outer shell (the Air part) to help keep you cool in the heat, yet combined it with a detachable hydratex|Mesh G-liner construction to give you the waterproofing components that you need when caught in the rain (the H2O part). It’s the versatility that urban sport riders didn’t know they needed. In terms of the look, we set aside our own style manual to create a totally different aesthetic.

Sizing Information

We tried a size Medium and an XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. Those are sizes they usually wear in an “American” cut jacket. This jacket from REV’IT! fits well enough and it looks sharp, but there is very minimal room left. Many brands from Europe exhibit a fit like this, such as Alpinestars. If you look at REV’IT!’s published size chart (below), you’ll see their estimate of chest size is at least a full size smaller than what you’d find in equivalent US designed clothing.

We measured each jacket and tried them on and we’ve concluded that the fit is just about one-half size smaller than what you would find in ordinary US men’s clothing. The amount the jackets are undersized is not as severe as REV’IT!’s size chart would have you believe. For most people, this means you’ll be able to buy the size you normally wear if you want a snug, European style fit. If you want a looser American fit, or if you are between sizes, choose one size larger.

Below is the REV’IT!-published chest size for each jacket’s alpha size along with our estimate of max chest and max waist/belly. This particular style is a sport/street style so there is only a moderate taper from chest to waist, and with a style like this you can effectively tailor the fit of the waist with the side waist adjusters, which makes the jacket look great and fit great, so don’t worry if your waist/belly is smaller than the max. We only list this for those that have a belly so they can know what minimum size they’d have to choose to fit the belly.

Note: Add about 1” to your chest and belly measurements if you plan to add a back protector.

Our Two Cents

The REV’IT! Apex Air H2O jacket is an urban sport styled jacket for just about any weather mother nature throws your way.

The Apex Air H2O has a detachable hydratex® liner (snaps on the chest and back of the neck and 2 in each sleeve) that fits snug on the body for waterproofing. With the liner installed, the jackets fit on the smaller side of our size chart above. Pull that liner out and you have a full mesh jacket that will flow plenty of air in hot temperatures. That will also up the jacket up about an inch or so for a more forgiving fit. The jacket has adjustment straps at the waist, cuff, and bicep for a custom fit. The main zipper has a large pull tab that is easy to handle when wearing gloves and the hand pockets at the belly have longer cords so they are also easy to open and close.

The back of the Apex Air H2O has a small reflective strip at the lumbar for some nighttime visibility. Other protective features include SeeSmart™ CE level 1 armor at the elbows and shoulders and TPU protectors at the shoulders. There is a pocket in the back for an optional upgrade to back armor (see our suggestions below in the related products). There is also a short connection zipper and two belt loops so you can easily attach this jacket to your favorite riding pants to keep the tail down at speed or in a slide.

The jacket has two hand pockets at the belly and one internal stash pocket on the right side of the torso. REV’IT! notes a waterproof pocket within the hydratex® liner, but there is no pocket in the liner of the jackets we have here at the shop so I think that was a mistake on a copy/paste somewhere along the line.

The REV’IT! Apex Air H2O jacket should perform well for the urban sport rider that is looking for a good summer time jacket with a flash of style and an option for occasional wet weather riding. With the liner installed you should be able to handle cool mornings and light rains with ease. :: Mike, 07/25/2022
