Sizing Information

We tried a size Medium and an XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. Those are sizes they usually wear in an “American” cut jacket. This jacket from REV’IT! fits well enough and it looks sharp, but there is very minimal room left. Many brands from Europe exhibit a fit like this, such as Alpinestars. If you look at REV’IT!’s published size chart (below), you’ll see their estimate of chest size is at least a full size smaller than what you’d find in equivalent US designed clothing.

We measured each jacket and tried them on and we’ve concluded that the fit is just about one-half size smaller than what you would find in ordinary US men’s clothing. The amount the jackets are undersized is not as severe as REV’IT!’s size chart would have you believe. For most people, this means you’ll be able to buy the size you normally wear if you want a snug, European style fit. If you want a looser American fit, or if you are between sizes, choose one size larger.

Below is the REV’IT!-published chest size for each jacket’s alpha size along with our estimate of max chest and max waist/belly. This particular style is a sport/street style so there is only a moderate taper from chest to waist, and with a style like this you can effectively tailor the fit of the waist with the side waist adjusters, which makes the jacket look great and fit great, so don’t worry if your waist/belly is smaller than the max. We only list this for those that have a belly so they can know what minimum size they’d have to choose to fit the belly.

Note: Add about 1” to your chest and belly measurements if you plan to add a back protector. Add an additional 1” inch to your chest if you will add the chest protectors.

Our Two Cents

The REVIT Airwave 3 jacket is new for 2020 and is a slightly updated version of the “2” version from 2016. This is a great all-mesh street jacket good for riding in the hottest summer months. Armor is included for the shoulders and elbows and armor can be added for the back and chest.

What’s new with version 3? The armor is here is now the honeycomb shaped rubberized units which is CE level 1 and due to its shape vents better than the solid black armor from the version 2; new color combos with slightly updated textile materials; chest protection is now an option; jacket sizing is adjusted to be more “American” as compared to past years where the jackets ran one size small.

I’ve always been a fan of this jacket. Most gear makers have a solid mesh jacket for hot summer riding, but I personally think REVIT’s version has the most style. Even though the pricing is “entry level” (for REVIT anyway), the jacket uses premium materials with nice styling touches. For example, I’m looking at the Grey/Anthracite color option, and it’s not really just plain grey or black, it’s a slightly greenish grey with red accents which I think is sharp. The red accents are actually reflective too! I also like the leather look trim strips at the hand warmer pockets in front. I know it doesn’t sound like much as I type it, but the overall effect is that of a premium product.

Functionally, the Airwave is simple: full mesh for hot summer weather. The shoulders and elbow areas are a solid textile only to add a bit more abrasion resistance in those crash prone areas, and also to provide a bit more structure to better hold the shoulder and elbow armor in place. There are no removable liners, etc… just wear it in the heat and get wet if it rains! You’ll dry soon enough :)

Armor inserts are included for the shoulders and elbows as standard. It’s REVIT’s CE Level 1 SeeSoft armor which is pliable and comfortable. The armor is a rubber compound and it is molded in a honeycomb pattern which allows plenty of air flow. The back protector is optional. The jacket is equipped with a pocket to accept a Seesoft CE Level 2 Back Protector Insert type RV (RV refers to the shape). Take the link below to order. For sizes Small or Medium, choose size 4; for Large thru XXL, choose size 5 and for XXXL and larger choose size 6. Another protective option is the addition of front chest protectors (also see link below to order). Those are “one size fits all” and the two pieces fit inside pockets built into the lining of the front chest area.

I’ve included a link below to the matching Airwave 3 pants. The pants have a similar feature list to the jacket and will work well for hot weather use. Not everybody gets the full outfit, so if you just wear jeans, consider connecting the jacket to your favorite jeans with REVIT’s Safeway belt (take the link below). Alternately you can use the fabric loop in back to attach to your own belt or jean’s loop. Pricing for the new version 3 is the same as the version 2 from four years back, which is nice to know. Overall, a very nice product! :: Paul, 02-04-20

REVIT says: Keep riding in comfort and safety despite rising temperatures with the REV’IT! Airwave 3: our stylish and affordable jacket for hot weather motorcycling. The PWR|shell mesh panels at the front, back, and arms provide a continuous flow of air to keep the rider cool out on the open road. On the safety side, CE-level 1 SEESMART™ armor at the shoulders and elbows keep riders protected. The Airwave 3 can further be fortified via our SEESOFT™ CE-level 1 divided chest protectors and SEESOFT™ CE-level 2 back protector. The jacket can then be connected to jeans with the double jeans loop. Abrasion resistant stretch rip-stop chest panels help improve comfort and flexibility on the bike while adjustment tabs on the arms, and straps on the hips, will help riders achieve the perfect fit every time.

Besides the quality of this jacket, which is perfect for hot summer riding (90+, moves ton of air), the size chart and additional information from this website made possible that jacket fit was perfect for me. Snug, so the armor stays in its place... (Read more...)
