Dainese Sauris D-Dry Jackets (SOLD OUT)

We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey to see how they fit (Huey is in a Euro 52 and Dewey is in a 56) and they both look great. The overall fit of the base jacket is like many of Dainese standard street styles… not an aggressive sport fit, but not baggy either. The waterproof jacket fits over the base mesh jacket so it doesn’t change the fit of the base jacket when you use it.

This product is sold in European sizes. Generally speaking, the US chest size in inches is equivalent to roughly 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. To choose a size in this jacket, I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Sizing tips for upgrading armor: If you plan to add a back protector add 1” to your measured chest and belly size before using the size chart. If you plan on adding chest pads, add an additional 1” to your chest size.

This new Dainese Sauris D-Dry jacket is a bit of a different animal. This is a well equipped mesh jacket with a very nice rain jacket to wear over it during inclement weather. Armor is included for the shoulders and elbows and chest/back armor is optional.

I really like the concept of the Sauris. It is basically a fully armored summer mesh jacket along with a very nice waterproof shell that is worn OVER the mesh jacket when the weather turns nasty. The rain jacket is very nicely tailored and one reason I like this concept is the many possible uses of the rain shell off the motorcycle. Of course, it could be useful as a destination jacket, but you could also use it in your non-motorcycling life. Everybody needs a nice rain jacket, right?

The armor included in the shoulders and elbows of the mesh jacket is Dainese standard hard plastic and foam type. The elbow armor extends all the way down the forearm to give great coverage. For optional back and chest armor, this jacket is set up with pockets built into the inside liner. The back armor pocket takes either of the two back pads listed below. For a summer style like this, I’d steer you toward the Pro-Armor unit allows air to flow through it. You can also add chest armor (also listed below) and I’d also recommend the Pro-Armor unit for the chest, again for the best air flow.

Ok, not that I’ve bragged on the usefulness of this jacket, I have to point out that the combination of the two jackets is really expensive. Dainese offers a few models that are similar in features to the mesh jacket here… the Air Crono 2, Air flux D1 and Air Frame D1 are a few examples and those are priced at between $200 and $250. So that means the rain shell included with this jacket is priced at about $200-$250 which I think is a lot of money for a rain liner. Now I will admit, the rain liner is well tailored and fits perfectly over the mesh jacket with armor, which is a nice feature since many aftermarket rain liners can be a bit floppy in fit. If you like the idea of a well tailored rain liner and are willing to pay a premium, then this is your jacket. :: Paul, 05-23-19
