Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey to see how they fit (Huey is in a Euro 52 and Dewey is in a 56) and they both look great. The overall fit is consistent with other European sized jacket we sell such as Alpinestars and REVIT.

This product is sold in European sizes. Generally speaking, the US chest size in inches is equivalent to roughly 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. To choose a size in this jacket, I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Sizing tips for upgrading armor: If you plan to add a back protector add 1” to your measured chest/belly size before using the size chart. If you plan on adding chest pads, add an additional 1” to your chest size (chest pads do add to belly size).

The overall cut of this particular style jacket is very much in line with many Dainese sport jacket styles. It fits just a touch for snugly than the very similar styled Air Crono2 and Air Flux D1, so we’ve tuned down our max chest/belly recommendations in the chart below by about 1” as compared to the other styles. But overall it fits as you might expect.

Euro Size Max Chest (inches) Max Belly (inches) Approx US Alpha Size

Our Two Cents

The Dainese Air Frame D1 jacket is a great mesh jacket for hot summer riding. This model adds a removable windproof liner to help block the air flow on cooler mornings or mountain passes.

This jacket is super light and mostly mesh so wind will blow right though to your skin making it a perfect choice for hot summer months. Most of the shell is mesh, but the shoulders and elbows have solid material to beef up the abrasion protection just a bit. This jacket does not have any waterproofing features, so you’ll need a rain jacket over if you get into a rain. It does have the removable windproof liner though. When not in use, you’ll be able to fold it up into a very small space and tuck it away somewhere. This will handy when you start early in the morning before it heats up outside.

The armor in the shoulders and elbows is a light weight hard plastic over foam type that has been around for years. It works well and is very comfortable. You can add a back protector if you like (see the note below). Contrary to some literature published by Dainese, this jacket does not have pockets for optional chest protection.

The overall styling has the sport graphics in the colored choices but overall, its pretty neutral. The collar and sleeve ends have some upgraded trim on this jacket. The collar has a nice band of black leather and the sleeve ends have a roll of very soft neoprene material. Overall, a very nice jacket with the removable wind liner upgrade. :: Paul, 07-26-18

Note about armor upgrades: This jacket has a pocket to insert a back protector and/or chest armor. We recommend the Pro Armor G back protector because of its light weight and its air flow-properties although the back pad pocket of this jacket can accept the Mainis D1 G or Wave D1 G as well. Take the link below to read about the back protector options

Dainese says: When the weather heats up, there’s no better jacket than the Air Frame D1, which features a Quick Dry fabric chassis with ample use of mesh panels to really let the air flow. Thermal adaptability is provided via a removable windproof liner, while comfort is ensured by an anti-floating sleeve system and soft inserts at the neck and wrists.
