Sizing Information

We measured and tried on some samples in this vest and they fit as expected. Choosing a vest size is generally easier than with a jacket since you don’t have to worry about the fit of the shoulders and sleeves. I’d advise you to simply choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. If you between sizes, I’d advise choosing the smaller since these vest are generously sized for the US market.

FWIW, I visited the Cortech website to have a look at their sizing chart for vests and for some reason it is WAY OFF,,, by one or two sizes. For example, I measured a size XL in this vest to have a max chest in the 46”-48” range and they estimate a size 44” for the XL.

Our Two Cents

The Thunderbird vest by Cortech is new for the 2021 season. This is a heavy canvas vest with plenty of storage.

I like the overall look of this vest. It has sort of a “garage mechanic” look to me. The fabric reminds me of the heavy cotton material you see in work overalls worn by workmen in all sorts of trades. You can choose from black or olive. The olive color is a dark color with a touch of green. The inside liner is a slick satin finish in BRIGHT orange. I suppose if you ever found yourself on the side of a highway and wanted to be as visible as possible, you could turn this one inside out and have an effective safety vest. But I’m sure that wasn’t the intention here… they simply wanted to offer something a bit snazzy.

The vest is trimmed with bright gold colored zippers and has a comfy knit collar. There are panels of stretch fabric along the sides so you can expend a bit when sitting on the bike. Cortech’s description says it is “insulated”, but I feel only a VERY thin layer of material quilted to the back of the satin liner. It feels nice, But don’t get the idea this vest can be used to add a significant layer against the cold.

Pockets are this vest’s strong suit. I count nine total included a big fanny pouch and an inside gun pocket. Have a look at our photos for a rundown of them all, but you won’t be disappointed about storage options. Note: This vest does not offer any crash provision features. :: Paul, 07-22-21
