Sizing Information

The overall fit of this jacket is very “standard”. We checked some sizes against Joe Rocket’s size chart and found the estimated chest sizes to be accurate. We also tried on a Medium and XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey and they look great (view those shots by taking the View Larger Images link above). Therefore, I recommend you choose the size jacket you normally wear in men’s clothing. You can use the chart to choose if you know your chest size.

If you have a bit of a belly you can measure your belly with a tape to make sure the jacket size you choose will be big enough. The max belly size for each jacket is about 6” less than the chest size. For example, the men’s XL has a 46-48 inch chest and a max belly of about 40 to 42 inches.

This jacket does not come with removable armor as standard. If you plan on adding shoulder, elbow and back armor, and if you are between sizes, I’d suggest you choose the larger.

Our Two Cents

This new Vintage Rocket jacket by Joe Rocket offers another choice in their lineup for those who want a “vintage” leather riding jacket. It is similar in style and function to the Classic 92 and Old School… but with just a touch different styling.

The leather used is a standard weight cowhide, but it is very soft, so even as new I don’t think break-in will be much of a chore. When it breaks in, it will look even nicer. The leather has a “classic” slick finish unlike a lot of other vintage jackets that have a “pre-distressed” finish. The advantage of the slick finish is that the leather will not get dirty nearly as easily which is a plus when you consider that you’ll be collecting some bug guts that need wiping off. But you can get more of a “pre-worn” look by just wearing it a bunch!

Unlike most sport jacket styles, this one does not come with armor as standard. There are a lot of riders who’d prefer not to use armor, but if you want to add the armor you can. Joe Rocket offers the same CE armor they supply in most of their other styles as well as a standard dual density back pad (see the links below). For fall/winter use, the jacket comes with a very nice full-sleeve liner to add some insulation. No venting features though, so consider this jacket for cold to mild weather use. Oh, one last “new” feature… the little leather flap that covers the zipper near the waist closes with a hidden magnet. Now you won’t scratch the tank when forgetting to close that little flap because it will cover all by itself.

I think this is another successful vintage offering from Joe Rocket. The quality remains very good and I think anybody could enjoy wearing this jacket. :: Paul, 02-05-16
