Sizing Information

I find the fit of these new Tempest gloves to be a bit more snug than I was expecting. American brand gloves generally have a more roomy fit, where European brands run a bit more snug, but I’m finding these gloves to run on the snug side like those European brands such as Alpinestars, REVIT etc. I’d advise you to buy the size you normally wear, but if you are sometimes between sizes, choose the larger.

Hopefully you’ve had some experience with buying gloves and can choose based upon the fit of a previous pair. If you have no previous experience with glove sizing, go here for help.

Our Two Cents

These new Tempest gloves by Scorpion have a gauntlet arrangement I’ve not seen before. It’s kind of clever actually. It is a two part gauntlet. There is a “gaiter” part that extends from the wrist, which extends the waterproof layer up from the wrist and terminates in an elastic cuff. And then over that is a Velcro-close gauntlet that will handily fit OVER the sleeve end of your jacket. The outer gauntlet has a couple large grommets on the bottom side to drain any water that would travel down your sleeve and into the gauntlet.

The cuff arrangement seems to solve the quandary of putting the glove gauntlet over or under your sleeve end, so you get the best of both worlds. When I first examined the gloves I thought the outer gauntlet didn’t open up enough to easily fit over a typical textile jacket, so I tried on a jacket and then put the gloves on. The trick is to pull up the jacket sleeve a bit, get the glove on your hands, then peel back the outer gauntlet, position your sleeve end over the inner gauntlet, and then finally fold the outer gauntlet over the sleeve. It sounds like a hassle, but it really isn’t much effort and for your trouble, you get a super waterproof connection!

Aside from all that, the gloves look nice and have the features you’d want in a typical cool/cold weather glove. The gloves have “medium” insulation and the shell is a combination of textile and leather materials. The palm side has some extra “grippy” overlays and there is a nice bit of extra armor in the palm. The knuckles are covered with a hard armor piece covered with a nice synthetic material. Not too flashy, but not too boring. Aside from the adjustable cuff, the gloves have a strap at the wrist that will hold the gloves on your hand securely if you fall. And I also see a short rubber visor wiper on both index fingers (the piece with the Logo embossed).

Overall, I like these gloves for the unique gauntlet design, the sharp looks and the VERY reasonable price. :: Paul, 10-20-16
