Our Two Cents
The Sambia 2 in 1 glove from Held is another of their exclusive line that offers the functionality of two different types of gloves in one.
If you only could choose one glove for your epic adventure across the country, this might just be it. When you find yourself in cooler weather or wet weather, you can use the “DRY” compartment which envelopes your hand in a Gore-Tex liner which will keep out the rain and also block the wind. But when it warms up , you can use the “BREEZY” compartment which puts your hand directly in contact with the kangaroo perforated palm leather.
It sounds kind of complicated but it really isn’t. You’ll see two tabs at the end of the cuff which label which compartment to put your hand in and you just choose the one you need, then snug down the wrist strap and adjust the cuff and you’re all set to go!.
The Sambia 2 in 1 is a bit lighter than the other 2 in 1 gloves currently offered by Held. The back of the hand is made of some fabric materials. the use of fabrics along with the kangaroo leather palm makes this glove lighter. Also the cuff is not quite a full cuff so there is a bit less bulk there too.
The main armor comes from the molded knuckle protector and also the Superfabric patch in the palm. The Superfabric is a very tough material with hard nodules bonded to the exterior surface. So if you go down, and the Superfabric hits the pavement, it will offer a sliding action which helps prevent injury that might occur if the palm were made of plain leather which would more likely “grab” rather than slide on the road surface.
The cuff of this glove is tailored to be close to the wrist, so plan to wear these gloves under your jacket sleeve. If you ride with a sport/race jacket with tight sleeve cuff ends, you’ll want to choose a full gauntlet glove made to go over the sleeve.
Other features include tech compatible materials on the index finger. I find the thumb material will operate my phone too, but not quite as readily as the index finger. The insides of the “DRY” compartment are lined with a plushy material. When you put your hand in the “BREEZY” compartment, the back of the hand is lined, but the palm is in direct contact with the palm leather for max “feel”. :: Paul, 2-20-19
