Our Two Cents

FirstGear’s Cold Weather riding gloves are a bit of a specialty item. The gloves are insulated on the back of the hand, but not in the palm area, a design which is aimed at riders who have heated grips. The absence of insulation in the palm will give you greater feel for the controls and will also allow your hands to absorb the heat from the grips quicker than a glove that places insulation between your hand and the glove. The shell of the glove is all leather. The back side of the hand includes a strip of tough Aramid material over the knuckles. This Aramid is backed by a thin piece of shock absorbing D3O® material for some added impact protection. These gloves have a generous gauntlet that will easily slip over jacket sleeves and there is a zipper you can use to cinch them down to seal out rain and wind. On the outside heel of the hand, there is another patch of the Aramid/D3O material since this part of the hand is instinctively the first to hit the pavement in case of a spill. Another feature you’ll like is the little rubber wiper thingy on the left thumb which you can use to squeegee down your helmet shield. The insides are lined with a plush material that feels good. These gloves also have a wee bit of reflective material for nighttime visibility (take the “View Larger Images” link above to see that). So if your bike has heated grips, then consider this glove for cold to mild weather and occasionally wet weather. :: Paul, 03-05-13

These are a great pair of gloves with a lot of insulation and comfort features. What I like best about the gloves is that the gloves are insulated on the back of the hands, so that the gloves can be worn with heated grips. Many insulated gloves are insulated all the way around, so that heated grips are almost useless. (Read more...)
