Items showing “3-5 Days” will ship as soon as we receive the item from the Dainese US distribution system which can range from one to four weeks. The Dainese US distributor relies on inventory in their US warehouse as well as inventory overseas. Unfortunately their system is not capable of giving us a more accurate real-time estimate . If you are concerned about the shipping time on any particular item showing “3-5 Day” availability, please reach us using the Customer Service link here on our website, otherwise, we’ll assume you are OK with the longer time frame for delivery.

Sizing Information
The Manis D1 back protector is offered in “sizes”, and for each size, there is a choice of four heights. Here’s how to choose:
First, choose what “size” you need based upon chest size. The size determines the length of the waist and shoulder straps:
Size SM: 35.8”-38.2” (91-97cm)
Size MD: 38.2”-40.5” (97-103cm)
Size LG: 40.5”-42.9” (103-109cm)
Size XL: 42.9”-45.3” (109-115cm)
And then choose which “type” you need based upon the measurement from the base of your neck in back (shoulder height), down to your waist (to the center of the waist belt of your typical pants). The “type” determines the overall height of the back protector:
Type 49: 14.5”-16.5” (37cm-42cm)
Type 55: 15.75”-17.75” (40cm – 45cm)
Type 59: 16.9”-18.9” (43cm-48cm)
Type 65: 18.1”-20.1” (46cm-51cm)
We found the measurement of “shoulder to waist” is highly subjective and varies depending upon who takes the measurement, so to help you decide which type you need, here are the actual measurements of each back protector type:
Type 49: 19 1/2” tall
Type 55: 21 3/4” tall
Type 59: 24” tall
Type 65: 26” tall
All types and sizes are the same width, approx 10.5” wide
Our Two Cents
Here is an overview of the three types of back protectors currently offered by Dainese to be worn on the body (not in jacket pockets). Please visit each back protector product page to see specific sizing information. The description here is to help you know the general differences in the three styles:
The Pro-Armor back protector: This is a CE level 2 back protector. It is made of a semi rigid rubber material that is formed into a lattice type structure to absorb impact. A back protector like this is the most common type offered today and has the advantage of moderate weight and due to the lattice structure, it breathes really well. These back protectors are VERY flexible.
The Manis D1 back protector: The Manis is also a CE Level 2 back protector. The construction is more traditional with hard plastic plates over an energy absorbing foam backing. The rigid platitudes are held together with elasticized material so the overall back protector will flex with your body. Some people prefer a “hard shell” design like this as it ill be more protective of an impact in a very localized area (picture falling on a rock or a bike part). The hard shell will act to disperse the energy of an impact over a wider area.
Wave D1 Back Protector: The Wave D1 is an older design whose overall construction is much like the Manis (hard shell over energy absorbing backing), but with a less elaborate setup for flexibility. It is the lightest of the three.. Its overall profile is teardrop shaped so it isn’t as wide between the shoulder blades. The Wave absorbs energy with an internal “crush-able” lattice material, so if you have a serious impact, you’ll need to replace this back protector.
