Sizing Information

The chest sizes listed in the chart below are from Klim’s chart and I’ve double checked the actual jackets against the chart and it is accurate. But be careful… while the size Large is exactly what you’d expect with a 44” max chest, the smaller sizes are a bit smaller than normal and the bigger sizes are bigger than normal. For example, a men’s size Medium usually is styled with a 42” max chest and Klim’s medium is a 40” max chest. Same goes for larger sizes… an XXL is typically a 48” max chest, but Klim’s is a 52” max chest.

Given the variation from “normal” for smaller and larger sizes, I’d highly recommend you measure yourself and/or measure a jacket that fits you well (take the link below on how to do that). Then choose a jacket that is big enough for your chest.

This jacket is geared toward more off road use than on road, so the cut is just slightly different. I find the body to be just a bit more roomy than their other jacket styles. I found the belly area in the jackets to be the same max dimension as the chest.

Overall sleeve and torso lengths are generous and will work for most average height or taller riders. Those of shorter stature may find the sleeve and torso lengths to be longer than ideal.

Jacket Size Max Chest Max Belly
Small 36” 36”
Medium 40” 40”
Large 44” 44”
XL 48” 48”
XXL 52” 52”
XXXL 56” 56”

Our Two Cents

Klim’s Carlsbad jacket is very similar in the feature list as their premium street jacket, the Latitude jacket. The Latitude has a few features that are geared more toward street riding where this jacket’s overall cut and feature list favor the adventure/off road rider.

The overall cut and fit is a bit more “free”.... the torso doesn’t taper much and the overall length is just a bit shorter than the traditional 3/4 style. Riding off road requires a bit more physicality and you’ll appreciate not being constricted in your movements. Also, the overall “heft” of this jacket is just a bit less than with the Latitude. Don’t get me wrong, the construction and the feel of the materials is VERY robust, but there are some thinner “rip stop” materials used which lowers the weight a bit. Also this jacket doesn’t have the side waist adjusters and the lower hip zippers which makes it a more simple, lighter design.

This jacket, like most other Klim jackets, is fully fitted with D3O armor in the shoulders, elbows and back. The D3O is their standard. We’ve had a lot of experience with this armor and have nothing but good things to say about comfort etc. It is a product that is fully tested and rated to CE standards.

Take the link to our photo gallery to see the pocket selection. There are PLENTY of pockets for storing all your stuff and the four big pockets in front are all waterproof too. Like other Klim jackets, this one has the pocket at the sleeve end next to the ”*” symbol to store your personal medical info, or if you aren’t into that, use it as a handy key pocket. Also, take a look at the photos of the various zippers… sleeve end, front torso and rear. This won’t be your favorite summer jacket, but the venting will help move some air through and it will function well for all but the hottest days. Like other Klim models, there is not a removable thermal component. You can check out the Inferno fleece jacket below or you can use your favorite thermal undergarments that you already own.

Overall, this is a very “free and easy” style to wear with plenty of room for moving around or to wear off-road specific gear underneath. Granted it isn’t wildly different from the other Klim jackets since it is textile, has the Gore-Tex waterproofing and all, but if you want something that is a bit more off-road friendly, then this one is it. :: Paul, 05-15-17
