Sizing Information

We tried on a selection of Forma boots here in the office and found the length to be about right. The width on the boots is a touch more wide than most other brands we carry. Alpinestars and TCX tend to be the most wide, but these might even be a touch wider. I’d say they are a D to E and might even work for somebody with a slightly wider foot (but don’t get carried away and think they are wide enough for a person needing a EEE or wider). So my advice would be to use the chart below to choose a size based upon your US shoe size.

Forma offers advice on choosing a size from your foot measurement. Here’s how:

1) Measure the overall length of your foot. Forma recommends placing your heel against a wall and measuring from the wall to the end of your longest toe.

2) Add 3/4” to the length of your foot

3) Using Forma’s sizing chart below, choose the smallest size boot with an insole measurement that is at least the length of your foot plus 3/4”.

Use Forma’s size selection method as a “second opinion”. Maybe you’ll find it reassuring if it matches your size choice based on street shoe size or, maybe it could be a tie breaker if you are undecided between two sizes. FWIW, Forma’s advice didn’t work for me since I have relatively short toes. I wear a 45 (known from trying on) and this method put me in a 42.

Our Two Cents

The Slam boot from Forma is a great looking riding sneaker available in two formats… the “flow” shoe and a waterproof “dry” shoe. This product page shows the Flow shoe. Take the link below to view the “dry” version.

The upper material on the Slam Flow shoe is a distressed sort of suede-type finish and the leather that is fully perforated. Behind that perf leather is some sort of reinforcing liner and then inside the boot is lined with the usual breathable and padded material. The reinforcing liner material really doesn’t let air flow through the shoe freely, so the I can’t really say this one would be a super great hot summer shoe. But maybe you don’t want full breezy-ness? In that case, this one would be great for mild to very warm temps. The toe heel and the material along side the lace grommets is a sturdy slick finish leather which gives some contrast and looks sharp. It is also very sturdy feeling.

The Dry version of the shoe has the same general look, but offers a fully solid leather shoe with an integrated waterproof barrier built in behind the leather. A short sneaker like this won’t be like a waterproof boot, but at least you’d stay dry in minor rain and/or if you stepped in some water. If you ride in a wetter climate, then the “dry” version might be just the thing.

At first glance, I wasn’t expecting much in terms of overall protectiveness, but with the liner and the reinforcing materials, this shoe actually is quite sturdy feeling. The ankle protectors on each side are large and well padded. The heel is nicely reinforced and the toe is “somewhat” reinforced.

Like this WP version, this Flow version is VERY comfortable. A full lace boot like this allows you to really get the right snugness to fit your foot all around. The neck of the boot is well padded which makes the boots comfortable around your ankle for walking right out of the box.

I found the sole of this boot to be reasonably sturdy too. Its certainly more than a Converse sneaker. As riding sneakers go, I’d give this one a B+ in terms of how protective it feels on my foot. Overall a sharp shoe that is well made (like nearly all Forma shoes we’ve seen). :: Paul, 08-01-18

Forma says: If you are looking for lightweight urban style boots with protection for around town riding, then check out the new Forma Slam Flow ride boots! They have CE Certified Level 1 protection which includes an anti-crush, rubber sole, abrasion resistant leather, and internal plastic malleolus ankle protection.
