Sizing Information

We often say Alpinestars gloves run a bit snug as compared to other brands, but I found these to be just a bit more roomy than most of their gloves, so I’ll say this one runs “true to size” with most other brands. Most of the back of the hand in this glove is a stretch/mesh material that gives more than textile or leather materials, which probably allows for the move relaxed fit. I’d still suggest that if you are sometimes between sizes, then choose the larger of the two. Hopefully you’ve had some experience with buying gloves and can choose based upon the fit of a previous pair. If you have no previous experience with glove sizing, go here for help.

Our Two Cents

The Alpinestars Atacama gloves (named for a desert area in South America, pronounced much like “add a comma”) are what I would describe as “high end” in their class. We sell lots of gloves like this for half as much, but in comparing them, I see a difference here. What sort of difference? Well, this one is VERY lightweight, completely flexible, VERY comfortable and one with lots of ventilation. A lot of these style gloves are not much more than a non-protective “mechanics” style glove and most don’t have any features that would help in case of an accident. Lots of people wear gloves like this and if you are one of those, I’d encourage you to consider a higher quality version like this. You’ll like the looks and quality of the leather palms. They are very well tailored and the leather looks and feels great. There is some “better-than-most” padding material incorporated into the heel of the hand to help with pressure/vibration from the grips, and also to help with shock absorption in case of a fall. The material on the back of the hand is “airy” for sure and a bit stretchy. There are a bunch of molded rubber armor pieces on the back of the hand to provide just a bit of protection, but mostly they are for looks and style. The wrist closes with a Velcro strap. I’d call these “top of the line” in a glove of this nature, and I really like how they feel on my hands. Oh, I almost forgot! The tip of each index finger makes these gloves touchscreen compatible! :: Paul, 02-27-14
