Sizing Information

We also put the Medium on Huey and the XL on Dewey and they look good. I developed a chart below to show you the max chest and max belly size for each alpha size offered. But generally speaking, most people can choose the size they normally wear in men’s clothing.

The waist/belly fit on these jackets is pretty relaxed… only about 2” smaller than the chest so the belly fit shouldn’t be a problem for most, but you can measure your chest and belly and use the chart below to make sure you choose a size that will be big enough for both. The waist has side Velcro adjusters to help you snug down the waist to fit if there is some extra room (but they don’t make the waist/belly bigger).

SIze Max Chest Max Belly
Small 40 38
Medium 42 40
Large 45 43
XL 48 46
XXL 50 48
XXXL 52 50
XXXXL 54 52
XXXXXL 56 54

Our Two Cents

In 2015 we reviewed the predecessor model to this new Forge jacket. The previous version was called the 9MM. The jackets are very similar except this new version has matte finish steel zippers instead of shiny chrome, lets say this one is still classic but not quite as “Fonzie-ish”.

Z1R black leather jackets are well made and sturdy! The leather is thick but soft and has a nice finish to it. And the styling and fit are right on target for the cruiser rider. You’ll find the basics here… quality black leather construction and armor compatiblity, a few creature comforts and of course dual gun pockets!

Take the “View Larger Images” link above to see some good close-ups of the specific features and also those gun pockets. There are actually two gun pockets and each one is lined with a heavy black canvas and also has a couple wide elastic straps to hold the hardware in place. The pockets close with double snaps.

The Forge is a “modern” Marlon Brando style. It has the slant matte-steel zipper, and blacked out snaps on the four collar tips (snaps are important to keep them from flapping at highway speeds and driving you crazy)! Also, this one has the classic epaulets on the shoulder. VERY classic versions of this style will have side laces for fit adjustment but this one has the more modern Velcro close adjustments straps on the waist belt to help tailor the fit.

For cooler weather, this jacket comes equipped with a removable full sleeve thermal liner to add a bit of insulation. There are no zippered vents or other venting features so consider this jacket as being good for cold to warm weather (but not hot weather).

Unlike some classically styled jackets like this, the Forge jacket has provisions for shoulder, elbow and back armor. If you want to add those, we recommend the D3O armor (see links below). For a street style like this, I’d recommend the CE 1 rated armor.

In addition to the interior gun pockets, this model has four zip close pockets in front. Overall, I think this is a really nice jacket and I think you’ll be pleased with the value and quality you see when you get it. :: Paul, 06-27-18
