Sizing Information

We checked the fit on these jackets with our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey and got a good fit. We also measured other sizes, and we conclude these jackets run consistent with Tour Master’s size chart (see below).

Since the jackets are sold in “alpha” sizes, you can choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. The overall cut of this jacket is ideal for street and touring riding. It is more relaxed through the torso and not as “forward leaning” as a sport bike/race jacket. Generally speaking, those with average to stout builds will like this cut. The mid-section is highly adjustable with the side Velcro waist adjusters. Overall fit should be easy. If you are between sizes, I’d advise you to choose the smaller.

Alpha Size Max Chest Size Sleeve Length
Small 40 26
Medium 42 26.5
Large 44 27
XL 46 27.5
XXL 48 28
XXXL 50 28

Our Two Cents

The Saber 4.0 jacket is new and represents a design tweek of the previous Saber model. There are a few changes in materials sourcing and such, but largely they’re continuing with the same basic design as before (but amazingly it’s $10 cheaper MSRP). The Saber has always been a popular style with us because of the overall value it offers. For a very low price point this style has a great many of the features everyday riders want for touring or commuting. It is rare for a jacket with the number of features this jacket has to be priced so reasonably.

Consider this jacket to be a “three season” style. It will be great for cold weather to mild weather and also wet conditions. The shell has a waterproof barrier built in that will keep you dry. There is also a very nice full-sleeve thermal liner for insulation in cold weather. One small touch I find helpful is the color coded keepers used to install the thermal liner. The color codes makes it easy to attach the right loop on the snaps (you’ll see what I mean when you get the jacket). For use in warmer temps there are zippered vents that allow some airflow. For really hot weather though, you’ll want a mesh style of some sort. With the heavy textile shell, rain liner, etc, even with the zippered vents, this jacket will be uncomfortable in high temperatures.

Commuters and touring riders need a lot of convenient storage and this jacket has quite a few storage pockets, including a map pocket and an internal media pocket. We’ve taken some nice pictures of all the pockets and you can view those by taking the “View Larger Images” link above. Some other nice little features I noticed: the collar and cuffs are trimmed in a soft fleecy material that should feel great; and the main front zipper is “two way” meaning it will zip up and down like an ordinary zipper, but also will zip up from the bottom which you can use when sitting in the saddle to allow the tails of the jacket to drape to the sides rather than bunch up in your lap.

Last but not least, the jacket comes with a full complement of C.E. approved armor in the shoulders and elbows as well as a triple density foam spine protector. The jacket also has some good reflectives for nighttime visibility. We’ve included some night shots in the photo gallery for you as well.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this review the Saber series is a great value for those wanting a great basic jacket that will work well for everyday riding. — Paul 10-15-14
