Sizing Information

For the last few years, REV’IT! has been trying to get their “American” offering of jackets where the sizing is consistent with most other manufacturer’s. When they first started selling in the US, they sized their alpha sized jackets so that they fit about one size smaller than anybody else. In the last couple years, they’ve corrected the issue and now their jackets fit as most people might expect. But with the Raceway, unfortunately they have taken a step back and this one fits like the original sizing chart which will be about one size smaller than you might expect. And for most people, that means you’ll have to buy one size larger jacket than you normally wear in men’s clothing. I’d highly recommend you use a tape and measure yourself and then use the chart to choose the correct size.

The overall fit of this jacket is trim… some call it a “European” cut, which means it is close fitting and will work best for those with a trim build.

We put a Medium and XL on our two Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. We generally buy test jackets in a Medium for Huey and an XL for Dewey (41” and 45” chest respectively) assuming these jackets would fit “normally”, and were able to get them on the two mannequins, but it was a very tight fit (click the “View Larger Images” link above to see).

Below is the REV’IT-published chest sizes for each jacket alpha size along with our estimate of max waist/belly. We include a waist/belly measurement because if you have some belly, then you will want to make sure you are buying a jacket that is large enough to accommodate you. Those with a waist that is trimmer than the chart indicates for their chest size can use the adjustment straps to customize the fit with no problem. A jacket like this looks great with the waist adjusters in a bit. With this jacket, we see that the jackets don’t taper a lot so the belly issue won’t be a problem for most.

Jacket Size Max Chest Our Estimate
of Max Belly/Waist
Small 34-37 35
Medium 37-39 37
Large 39-41 39
XL 41-44 42
XXL 44-46 44
XXXL 46-48 46

Our Two Cents

This Raceway gets the prize for the most “simple” jacket I’ve reviewed for REV’IT!, and folks, let me tell you, that is not a bad thing. REV’IT! makes a premium product with a lot of technical features. Some jackets have a dizzying array of special features for climate control and storage. This Raceway jacket however is a remarkably simple design, but with the same high quality materials and construction as the other jackets. I like the sporty looks too. The color combos are really sharp.

The shell is a simple textile lined with mesh. The shell has some interesting detailing which adds a lot of style and maybe even a bit of crash protection help. Notice the quilted pads on each side of the rib cage under the arms. Also, you’ll see molded rubber logos on the jacket shoulders and another little quilted strip below that. Sharp.

This jacket has the usual mix of pockets… two on the outside and two breast pockets inside. And the jacket can zip to compatible pants, or it has a loop in the back you can use to simply tie the jacket’s tail down to the belt on your jeans. This is a handy thing to prevent draft from blowing up the tail of the jacket and inflating it at highway speeds.

The neck is adjustable with a snap-slider arrangement which I like and the arm circumference can be adjusted with snaps. And finally there are Velcro straps at the waist to tailor the fit around the waist/belly area.

One very unique feature on this jacket is the venting arrangement. The jacket has shoulder and back vents much like any other jacket, but the front main zipper is sort of a two-in-one setup… when you use the second zipper, you are leaving a strip of mesh material open for full air flow. The strip runs all the way up the torso and is about an inch wide. This isn’t a unique feature… in fact many Power Trip and Joe Rocket jackets had this very same “big air” arrangement several years ago. But anyway, it looks like it would work great. REV’IT! sells an evaporation vest for this jacket. I’ve used evaporation vests before, and they work great with mesh jackets, but under a solid textile like this I can’t really see it working well… I’d guess it becomes clammy and wet underneath a solid shell jacket like this… even with the venting.

With this jacket, you get Knox CE armor in the shoulders and elbows, and you can add the optional back protector by REV’IT! Add a Back Protector: This jacket is made with a pocket to accept a Seesoft CE Level 2 Back Protector Insert type RV (RV refers to the shape). For size XS, choose size 3; sizes Small or Medium, choose size 4; for Large thru XXL, choose size 5 and for XXXL and larger choose size 6. Overall, I like this jacket because it is simple and sharp… and has great quality. An easy-to-wear jacket like this one will be the first one I grab out of my closet! :: Paul, 03-09-15

I initially bought REV'IT shield but it was too big for me. I am 5'3 maybe (or 165 cm) tall. The medium size was too long in the arm and too wide on my shoulders. So I knew I needed small, I called the store, it was almost closing time, but Mike (... (Read more...)
