Alpinestars Oscar Bomber Jacket - Fits like a tall

While trying on this style, we found it to fit quite long in the body and in the sleeves, so I noted in the product name that it fits like a tall. The sleeve ends and the waist have the traditional knitted cuffs and it is almost as if they didn’t take those into account with the pattern and so it feels about 2” longer than a standard cut jacket.

Other than the sleeve/body length issue, selecting a size is basically pretty easy. The size Medium and XL jackets fit Huey and Dewey, our Fit Check mannequins very nicely! Also, we checked several sizes with a tape. We found the sizing to be comparable to standard men’s clothing sizes. So our primary advice would be to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Alpinestars publishes a super-complicated size chart which can be used to pick a size based upon your chest and waist. We’ve condensed their chart down to make it easy to read (see below). You can use this size chart to check your own measurements against the size chart to make sure the size you select will work. Choose a size that is big enough for both your chest and belly. The knitted band at the waist makes the fit quite flexible for a pretty large waist size range. It shouldn’t be a problem for most.

The Alpinestars Oscar Bomber jacket is a traditional aviator jacket with lots of style. Armor is standard for the shoulders and elbows and optional for the back. Check our sizing advice as this jacket fits longer through the body and sleeves than nearly any Alpinestars style we’ve seen. Tall guys pay attention!

The nylon shell material used in this jacket looks a lot like the fabric you see used in Air Force flight jackets. It is black in color and the jacket has antique hardware and the knitted cuffs are black as well. The zippered pockets you see on the jacket’s front are all functional.

This is a solid shell jacket without venting provisions so it will be most comfortable in cold to mild weather. In fact, for cold weather, the jacket includes a removable insulated vest. Alpinestars mentions it has been treated with a polyurethane coating for enhanced weather protection (meaning it sheds water I suppose).

The armor supplied with this jacket is a new Nucleon Flex Plus Level 1 armor in shoulders and elbows. Please visit our armor department where this armor is sold separately if you are interested in a more detailed description, but just briefly the armor is a very flexible and low profile design that sits flatter on the body and is less noticeable than traditional molded rubber armor. The jacket has a pocket for an optional back protector. I’ve listed the Nucleon type options below. You’ll find MANY details on the back protector product pages, but for this jacket, I’d recommend the Nucleon KR-CELLi model for its lighter weight.

A classic bomber style jacket like this will not only be useful as a protective motorcycle jacket, but the styling lends itself to casual wear as well. The armor, being low profile doesn’t give away the jacket’s protective capabilities. :: Paul, 06-08-20
