Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit great. My advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

If you look at Icon’s chest size estimates for each jacket, you might be choosing a size larger than you normally wear (example a person with a 46 chest typically is an XL, but using Icon’s chart you’d buy an XXL). I’m not sure why Icon has always understated the size of their otherwise normally fitting jackets. To help you choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements, I’ve put together the table below. If you use our estimates of max chest, you’ll probably be choosing the size you normally wear.

Contrary to Icon’s marketing info which says this jacket has an “Icon Sport Fit”, which implies a snug torso and a large taper from chest to waist, I find this jacket to be pretty “relaxed” and therefore belly size won’t be a problem for most. But if you have a bit of a belly, you’ll want to get a measurement and make sure to choose a jacket large enough to work.

Size Icon’s Chest Est Our Max Chest Our Max Belly
Small 36-38 38-40 38
Medium 38-40 40-42 40
Large 40-42 42-44 42
XL 42-44 44-46 44
XXL 46-48 46-48 46

Our Two Cents

Icon’s new 2019 Contra 2 jacket is a remake of a jacket Icon has had in their line-up for many years. The Contra 2 is available for both men and women (take the link below to see the other gender version). This is a mesh/textile hybrid jacket with a removable thermal liner, so you can get use out of it most of the year in comfort. D3O armor is included.

We are considering the new Contra 2 jacket to be both a mesh and a textile jacket. The belly, shoulders, lower sleeves, and sides of the back are all actually a mesh material. The rest of the jacket is a very sturdy feeling nylon material with extra reinforcement in key impact areas. You’ll be able to use this jacket in the hottest months of the year without the thermal liner installed, but when temps cool a bit, you can zip the liner in for a layer of insulation and wind blockage. The front chest area of this jacket has some neat little micro-perforated panels and even the insides of the “ICON” logo in front is fitted with mesh material to make it a functional vent.

Fit-wise, this is an easy jacket to wear. It has ample stretch panels over the elbow and behind the arms. The mesh materials are super flexible too and the overall cut is rather relaxed. Contrary to Icon saying it has a “sport fit”, it is really quite relaxed. The ladies version is a bit more fitted with the traditional hour glass shape. Contrary to the easy fit, the overall look is very sporty.

Icon offers a matching Contra 2 pant for men (take the link below). I’‘m kinds surprised they don’t offer a jacket/pant connection between the jacket and pant, or even loops to attach the jacket tail to your jeans’ belt. Some sort of connection would have been a nice feature… oh well.

The Contra 2 has a nice armor package for sport/street use. All the protectors are included… elbows, shoulders and back and all are D3O brand CE level one. This is good quality armor and it is VERY comfortable to wear.

I really like this new version of the Contra… it is sharp, fits well and offers a great armor package… all included for what I think is a very reasonable price. :: Paul, 04-23-19

Icon says: Ol’ Faithful just got an update. We’ve listened to your feedback, applied it, and reworked a classic from the ICON line. The durable textile Contra 2 jacket checks all the boxes. The tried-and-true Iron Weave Mesh™ panels allow intake and exhaust airflow, dramatically reducing the chance of overheating, and the jacket is further reinforced with ballistic Poly in the tumble zones. Industry-leading D3O® shoulder, elbow, and back impact protectors come standard. The cuff vents, retro-reflective hits, and anti-flap arm straps are just a few of the creature comforts in this feature-rich jacket. A SatinCore liner adds modularity, and the TPU chest badging provides the classic ICON steeze. Check, check, and check, the Contra 2 jacket has what you need.
