Sizing Information

We put a Medium and XL on our two Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. We generally buy test jackets in a Medium for Huey and an XL for Dewey (41” and 45” chest respectively) assuming these jackets would fit “normally”, and were able to get them on the two mannequins, but it was a very tight fit (click the “View Larger Images” link above to see).

We measured both the max chest and belly of every size in this jacket and we find them to run consistently smaller than what you find with most alpha sized men’s jackets. Many of REVIT’s style are set up this way… particularly any styles that are part of their “urban” collection. I’ve put together a chart for you to choose a jacket based upon your chest size (see below). And for most people, that means you’ll have to buy one size larger jacket than you normally wear in men’s clothing. I’d highly recommend you use a tape and measure yourself and then use the chart to choose the correct size.

Once you determine the correct size for you, the fit of the jacket is easy. The jacket has only a slight taper from chest to waist, which means most body types will do just fine with it, but the jacket has great size adjustment in the midsection so it looks good on even the trimmest body types. We’ve included a waist/belly measurement so you can make sure you are buying a jacket that is large enough for both your chest and belly.

Jacket Size Max Chest Our Estimate
of Max Belly/Waist
Small 38 36
Medium 40 38
Large 42 40
XL 44 42
XXL 46 44
XXXL 48 46

Our Two Cents

Wow, how about this Sand Urban! Take the most feature filled jacket you can imagine and wrap it in a more luxurious package and that is what this jacket is all about. The shell materials set this one apart from nearly everything else in our catalog. The material is a softer touch canvas-like material and the tone-on-tone styling really make this one look great. Anybody wearing this jacket looks serious about their gear! Styling is a personal thing, so you’ll have to decide whether you’re a “Sand Urban” sort of guy or not. But let me lead you through the mechanics of the jacket. My comments are mostly a copy/paste from my review on the Sand 2 jacket which has been a “best seller” all season touring/adventure jacket:

The overall look and feel and fit are the things that are different about this jacket as compared to the “regular” Sand jacket from REV’IT. In addition to the more “urban” styling, this jacket fits more trim (see our sizing advice above). And the overall silhouette of the jacket is made more trim with the use of the much thinner SEESMART CE Level 1 armor in the shoulders and elbows. Most of REV’IT’s urban items use this thinner armor as do most of their riding jeans. Have a look at our photo gallery to see some pics of that armor.

Like the “regular” Sand, the big deal in my mind about this style is climate control. This jacket has a pretty elaborate removable liner system that lets you choose whether to use a thermal liner, or a rainproof liner, or both together depending upon the conditions you have at the moment. It is about as close to a four season jacket as you can get. I’d say it is about a 3.5 season design. For warmer weather, the jacket has four LARGE front zip vents and a rear exhaust vent across the shoulder blade area. These vents will allow a lot of air flow… better than almost any solid design jacket. And this jacket is even set up to add a cooling vest! (see below) That vest can be soaked and will provide evaporative cooling for the hottest weather.

Okay, moving on. About the liner system…. it’s an easy concept really…. it has two liners, and you just experiment in different temps and see how each works singularly or in tandem. Once you get some experience with them, you’ll know what works best for you. Be ready for a bit of assembly and dis-assembly though. Between the two liners, there are at least four zippers and about a dozen little snaps to completely take it all out and put it all back in. But that really can’t be helped with a design like this to work properly. And besides, you won’t be changing configurations often. Now everything I said applies to this jacket but it wouldn’t hurt to stress that the zippered venting on this model is more robust than most similar jackets… as well it should be because a full touring cut like this will need to flow more air to achieve the same comfort. In the close-up pics you’ll see the long lower arm vents and the large front chest vents.

I’d suggest you click through our photo gallery to look over all the other features of this jacket, most of which you probably are familiar with and would expect… pockets, closures, adjustments, and all the rest. This jacket is a LOT of jacket wrapped in a luxury package. If that sounds like something you want, then you are in the right place! :: Paul, 02-2-17

Add a Back Protector: This jacket is made with a pocket to accept a Seesoft CE Level 2 Back Protector Insert type RV (RV refers to the shape). For sizes Small or Medium, choose size 4; for Large thru XXL, choose size 5 and for XXXL and larger choose size 6.
