The TCX shoes look great! They have more ankle protection than other riding shoes that I looked at, which is one of the reasons I went with this particular shoe. I got the anthracite version, and it looks great in person. Sort of a spackled steel gray. The soles are flat. The toe box is wide and vertically roomy. I had enough room to slip a Dr. Scholls insole in, which fills up some of the space and makes the shoe a lot more comfortable. There is no toe shifter covering but so far the toe seems pretty resilient. I can see a shine developing on the left toe. Since the shoes have that spackled coloring, the darker color on the toe doesn't stand out. The shoes were extremely stiff when I got them. I could barely get my foot past the ankle bend. After wearing them around the house and taking them out for a 200 or so mile ride, they are feeling better. One thing I noticed is it's more comfortable for me to keep the lace that goes across the bendy part of your foot a bit loose so it doesn't dig into your foot when you're on the bike. Size-wise, I'm an 8.5 in most mens dress shoes and typically a 42 euro in moto boots, and the 42 euro in TCX X-Rap fits as I expected. I really like the hi-viz laces, but also like that they include a white set just in case you want to swap them out.
