Survivor-suit
August 13, 2012
After a few weeks of looking at various textile suits, I settled on the Joe Rocket Survivor suit from motorcyclegear.com. My main reasons for purchasing the suit were price, safety and utility. The suit is reasonably priced given its weight and construction. The textiles seem sturdy and the waterproof zippers inspire confidence. CE level armor is protects the shoulders, elbows and knees and the included foam back protector seems to provide reasonable protection. The Medium sized suit fit my 150lbs, 5'10" frame well. It is a bit baggy without the liner, which makes it easy to wear over street clothes. With the liner in, the fit is snug. I find the suit to be comfortable without the liner down to about 45F. I have yet to test the suit in the rain, but it claims to be water resistant. In warmer temperatures, the interesting ventilation system works well. The suit has what joe rocket calls the "big air system". Open up the main zipper and underneath there's a secondary zipper holding together a mesh panel. The amount of airflow is substantial making this suit comfortable to wear up to about 75F. At temperatures above 80F, the suit induces sweating, but this is expected of any gear that's not full mesh. Throughout all this, motorcyclegear.com was great. They not only had one of the lowest prices of any online retailer, but also pricematched to match the lowest price I could find. The shipping was free and it arrived quickly.
