Sizing Information

We find TCX boots to be very consistent in fit from one model to the next. We checked this boot and it too is consistent with other models. To choose a size, please click here to see the TCX size chart. The general width of TCX is “medium” or D to E. To compare to other brands you may have experience with, I’d say the overall fit is somewhere between a Sidi boot which is generally a bit more narrow and an Alpinestars boot which has a more generous width.

Our Two Cents

The X-Square Sport Waterproof boot, as you might have guessed, is the waterproof version of the X-Square Sport. If you take a gander at our close-up pics, you’ll be able to see that the tongue of the boot carries the waterproof barrier on around the foot. The height of the tongue gaiter is about the same height as the rear scallop of the boot, so this shoe/boot will only be waterproof so long as you can keep water from coming in the tops. I’d suggest a good rain pant with a stirrup, or rainproof riding gear that is plenty long. Here are my comments on the X-Square which are also perfectly applicable to this boot: These new X-Square Sport boots are a more “low profile” and/or European styled boot than their other offerings. The black material used along with the suede on the upper has sort of an interesting texture which feels somewhat “rubberized”, sort of like a Rubatone finish helmet if you have ever seen one. The boots are a typical lace-closure, short hiking boot style. I’ve called out other similar looking boots that were not much more than glorified sneakers (such as Alpinestars Fastlane shoes), for not having sufficient protection for motorcycling. I’d put these boots somewhere in the middle between plain sneakers and a pretty heavy duty boot with protection. They do have ankle bone armor pieces built in and I’ll give them points for the recessed laces and the Velcro-close strap over the top of the laces, which will help you from getting these tangled on something on the bike, but the reinforcements in the toe box and heel area are not so robust. Also, with a very thin sole like this, comfort for walking and long term wear might be in question. But I think I’m probably missing the point here… these boots are highly styled and a lot of people will really like how they look. The overall quality seems to be there too… as I have come to expect from TCX. Oh, and in case you thought otherwise, the feature TCX calls “PU toe sliders” are really just stylish molded rubber overlays for the toe area… they wouldn’t function very well or long passing over pavement :) :: Paul, 02-24-14
