Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit great, if anything a bit on the roomy side. My primary advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

The chart provided by Speed and Strength shows chest sizes for each alpha size that are a bit larger than what you’d normally see for “standard” conversion from chest size to alpha size. Based on my observations (above), the chart seems just about right.

Size Small Medium Large XL 2XL 3XL
Chest 38-40 40-42 42-45 46-48 49-52 53-56
Sleeve 33 34 35 1/2 36 1/2 37 37 1/2

Our Two Cents

Wow, this jacket has been a long time coming! This jacket appeared in our distributor’s catalog early last fall (2011) and we just recently received samples for fit evaluation and photography. Anyway, I guess it is just in time for the summer of 2012! This jacket ranks among some of the higher quality brands we carry (fit and finish looks very much like FirstGear to me). The overall design has an easy fit (as described above), and I personally really like how “tailored” everything looked. The seams were very straight and flat and the materials look great. Definitely not a cheap looking garment. I only have one tiny little flaw to point out to you. The logos on the chest are rubberized and have an inlay of stainless mesh material. It’s very cool looking but there are a few frayed edges along the zipper (see the closeup by taking the “View Larger Images” link above). It is not a big deal, and they can be easily trimmed… just be sure you are OK with this before ordering (we can’t do warranty claims for this because they are ALL that way). The armor in this jacket is a bit above the rest. It has a full complement of Knox C.E. approved armor in the shoulders, elbows and for the back. Knox is an industry leader in protective armor and we don’t often see a C.E. approved spine pad except as an optional and expensive upgrade… this one has it as standard. This jacket also comes with an “under jacket”. It is sort of like a sweat shirt made of very light fleecy spandex material. They call it the “Cool Core” moisture wicking liner. Hmmmm…. I’m guessing we’ll have to wait for a good customer test drive to see what we all think of this liner idea. It is supposed to enhance hot weather comfort by wicking sweat, but won’t it cut down on the air flow? It could serve as a light layer in case the weather turns a bit cooler I guess, but it isn’t waterproof or windproof. Anyway, there is some science behind it so hopefully you will find it useful. Who am I to poo-poo new ideas, right? Overall, this is a very nice jacket made of high quality materials. It has above average protection and I personally think it is sharp. Let us know what you think! (send a Happy Customer review on the liner). :: Paul, 05-05-12
