Sizing Information

These suits are sold in US chest sizes. We recommend that you take a look at the sizing chart provided by Speed and Strength to find the suit that would fit you the best. Not sure why they list waist size when belly size would be more important, but the waist sizes listed would be about right for each size suit. To figure max belly size, just subtract 6” from the suit size as an approximation (example: a 46 suit would have about a 40” max belly and would fit somebody with a 36-37 waist).

I found the overall fit of these suits to be for the “average” build. One piece race suits are cut snug and relatively short. It’s hard to put firm numbers on the height issue, but generally speaking, the smaller size suits will fit people up to about 5’9”, the medium size suits about 6’ and the very large suits might go up to about 6’2”. Evaluate the fit of a race suit while in the riding position. If they fit well in that position, chances are they will be uncomfortable for standing or walking around because of the “pre-curved” nature of their construction.

Our Two Cents

The Triple Crown One Piece suit is Speed and Strength’s “entry level” race suit. Overall it offers all the basic features you’ll want for the track. The fabric inserts on the insides of the arms, legs and crotch area and the leather stretch panels behind the arms and above the waist are “must have’s” these days on nearly any suit like this. The fit of a leather track suit is snug and those fabric inserts help give a bit of stretch as your body moves and allows the suit to be more snug overall without constricting in certain places. Lesser quality suits won’t have these features and therefore getting a comfortably snug fit would be difficult. The armor on this suit is pretty basic but feels robust. There are CE protectors in the shoulders, elbows and knees and in addition to that, the suit has built in “memory foam”. The memory foam is a soft armor that molds easily to the body shape, but then momentarily gets firm when impacted. The combination of the two armor types results in a combo that feels substantial but remains flexible. The suit has a couple pieces of the memory foam in the chest area. I’ve pulled those out for a photo so you can see what those look like and also get a feel for what memory foam looks like (see our close up photo gallery to see… just click the “View Larger Images” link above). The back pad in the suit is removable if you plan on wearing something more substantial, but on its own it is a pretty nice unit. The front and rear of the torso and the front sides of the arms have some perforations which will be welcome in warmer weather. I wouldn’t call this a “fully” perforated or vented suit, but some perfs are better than none. The interior of the suit is standard nylon mesh which is non-removable (higher priced suits will offer a removable liner). The suit does come with a set of starter knee pucks. Of course you can replace them if you like as they are standard Velcro design. The back of the suit has an aerodynamic speed hump which is a feature you typically only find on more expensive suits. The hump will offer some aerodynamic benefit at very high speeds, but more importantly, the hump serves as a “bridge” between the back of your helmet and your mid-back. If you were to be tossed off your bike and land on the back of your head, the hump will help prevent your helmet from being wrenched forward. The main zipper in this suit is a heavy duty steel zipper. Overall, a nice suit for the amateur racer or aggressive street rider. :: Paul, 05-30-13
