FirstGear Kathmandu Gloves - 2011

These gloves are consistent with the major brands we carry, so hopefully you’ve had some experience with buying gloves and can choose based upon the fit of a previous pair. If you have no previous experience with glove sizing, go here for help.

The Kathmandu Gloves are fairly unique as far as motorcycle gloves go. Probably the most apparent stray from the norm is the use of a long cuff, which is made of neoprene. This cuff sits tight against the wrist, and has a Velcro strap for adjustment. It does make the glove opening a bit narrow if you have large hands, but of course neoprene is fairly stretchy material. The glove is lined with a waterproof membrane, which should do a good job keeping your hands dry in wet weather. The neoprene cuff doesn’t seem to have this lining, however. These gloves are listed as having 40 grams of Thinsulate insulation. I would say these would be comfortable in cooler weather, but don’t expect them to keep your hands warm in very cold weather, as they feel pretty thin as far as insulated gloves go. There is some padding on the palm and all the way up the fingers, which I thought felt a bit strange. A molded knuckle protector adds some protection while giving the gloves a bit of a sporty look, and there is also a reflective stripe for some night time visibility.
