Our Two Cents

If you are in the market for a budget one piece leather race suit, you might want to take a close look at the AGV Sport Willow. The only drawback to this less expensive suit is that the inner liner is not removable, which makes it hard to clean. Otherwise, the Willow is a lot of suit for the money. 1.2 to 1.4mm leather provides substantial abrasion protection. The thinner leather is used in the main body of the suit while the 1.4mm leather is used on the impact areas. CE approved armor is used at the elbows, shoulders, and knees. All of that armor is removable, and the knee armor is actually positionable, using large Velcro patches for perfect placement. The memory foam back pad is also removable if you want to add your own back protector. In addition to this removable armor, there are memory foam pads at the hips, collarbone, front and back of the torso, and sides. The speed hump is also an important safety feature. Not only does it help with aerodynamics at speed, it also provides a bridge between your back and the back of your helmet in a fall – preventing the neck from being wrenched forward upon impact. For comfort the collar and sleeve cuffs are lined with moisture wicking neoprene, and a portion of the front of the torso and legs are perforated. There are also molded intakes at the shoulders for some additional ventilation. The only area for hot air to escape, however, is at the underarms. For that reason, I think this suit might get a bit warm on really hot days (but then again, what leather suit doesn’t?). Stretch panels are found at the back of the shoulders, elbows, lower back, and above the knees. In addition, Teramid Kevlar fabric is used down the inner arms, and from the crotch to the knees. This fabric is strong yet flexible, and thinner than leather, which really helps with comfort and flexibility. The Willow also features reflective logos front and back, as well as on the sleeves and above the knees. A real plus for those of you wearing suits on the street. Knee sliders are included and are attached with the typical Velcro. The AGV Dragon Gloves look awesome and ended up working out but the Gauntlet opening is small, making it hard to get it over the suit arms. The stitching on the inside was rough too. For the price I think they are good though. (Read more...)
