Arai CT-Z Helmet :: MotorcycleGear.com

Arai CT-Z Helmet

  • Cruise/touring helmet based on the popular XC-Ram but with enhanced features
  • Peak works with the shield for riders who ride into the sun for extended periods of time
  • Removable and replaceable Dry-Cool® interior liner
  • FCS (Facial Contour System) cheekpad design is now more low-profile and offers secure support over a larger area providing superior stability and comfort with minimal pressure
  • Micro fitting: Surface pads can be removed from both sides of the head liner, as well as the top surface of both cheek pads, to achieve the best possible fit and minimize the need to purchase additional padding
  • Upper vent system borrowed from the Arai Corsair V helmet; both hot air extraction & aerodynamic stability are excellent on the CT-Z
  • Fixed Air-Wing® on the CT-Z reduces lifting while providing additional stability at highway speeds
  • Vented neck roll takes advantage of existing airflow from around the rider’s neck to further enhance helmet ventilation by extracting more heat build up from the interior
  • Removable visor helps reduce sun glare and is designed to provide minimal lift at highway speeds; this adjustable peak offers just the right amount of protection from the sun for just about any rider for those long rides heading directly into the sun
  • Thinner faceshield pods increase aerodynamics; dual pivot shield mechanism allows the shield to flip up and back so as to tuck neatly under the peak at a very low height. This allows for a very low peak profile, reducing drag or “bucketing” at higher street legal speeds
  • Snell 2010 certified

Our Two Cents

Arai’s CT-Z helmet is designed for touring riders who like an open face helmet design for the increased air flow that type of helmet gives them; it’s closer to the feeling of not wearing a helmet and not so confining as a full face. Arai based this helmet on the very popular XC-Ram; they listened to rider input and came up with an even better helmet. The goal of the new CT-Z design was to provide a peak that works with the shield for riders who ride into the sun for extended periods of time. The peak is adjustable and offers increased protection from the sun when a rider is heading directly into it. The shield mechanism pivots, allowing the shield to flip up and back; it tucks neatly under the peak at a very low height. In turn, this allows for a very low peak profile, which reduces drag or “bucketing” at higher speeds. Arai also is concerned with comfort; their spring-loaded cheek pad design offers firm support and stability but with minimal pressure. In addition, you have the ability to improve the fit of the cheek pads and the head liner in that you can peel away surface pads to achieve the best possible fit and minimize the need to change out those elements because of fit issues. The cheek pads have a full coverage EPS base with noise absorbing foam for improved sound isolation, and the covers are removable for cleaning.
Arai’s main focus on every helmet however is safety. Here’s what they had to say about this helmet: “A helmet is first and foremost an Energy Management System. From ventilation to aerodynamics, shield systems, radio, bluetooth and graphics, everything else is secondary, and none should ever interfere with the helmet’s number one job of Impact Energy Management! Arai looks to the incredibly strong shape of an egg for inspiration, with the smooth uninterrupted spherical shape transferring stress loads more evenly across its entire surface. The absence of exaggerated edges or protrusions on the shell is not a lack of creativity, but a commitment to maintaining the integrity of the shell with real world impact performance in mind, the kind a rider might encounter on the unpredictable streets where impacts are anything but controlled or predictable.”
Arai has a well-earned reputation for building some of the best helmets in the industry; that reputation will no doubt continue on with this addition to their lineup.
