Sizing Information

We find TCX boots to be very consistent in fit from one model to the next. We checked this boot and it too is consistent with other models. To choose a size, please click here to see the TCX size chart. The general width of TCX is “medium” or D to E. To compare to other brands you may have experience with, I’d say the overall fit is somewhere between a Sidi boot which is generally a bit more narrow and an Alpinestars boot which has a more generous width.

Our Two Cents

The 2018 Vibe WP boots are a new version of a sport lace-up street boot from TCX. These boots are VERY similar in style and function to the X-Cube style from about 3 years ago which are now obsoleted. Those who want a shorter street boot with laces that has motorcycle riding protection, but in a package that can be suited for street wear as easily as wearing on the bike will like this style.

The overall styling of this new Vibe boot is much the same as the former version…. they look to me like a high-top basketball shoe and/or wrestling boot that has been beefed up for motorcycle riding. I can’t recall which company came up with the first boot style of this ilk, but since these were introduced, there are now many similar styles available and they remain very popular. The boots have a pretty standard looking foot, so when used under jeans, they don’t look out-of-place and can be worn comfortably on the street.

The Vibe WP boots feature a waterproof lining, so they should work well for anyone that might get caught in the rain unexpectedly (a good choice for commuters). The WP liner in the boot makes the boot waterproof up to about the top of the ankle.

This is a lace-up boot, so you can get a good customizable fit through the instep. And the speed lace system works really well as compared to others I’ve seen. One good yank and they become uniformly tight! The closure strap helps to keep your laces out of the way so you don’t get them caught on anything. The heel and toe box areas are reinforced to provide some protection and to help the shoe retain its shape when shifting. There are a couple silver dollar sized armor pieces that will help to protect the inside and outside of your ankles without compromising the comfort of the boot. The ankle armor on the sides is easily visible in the pictures. What you can’t see is that there are firm pieces of armor that extend up to very nearly the top of the sides of the ankle area which gives a bit more protection, but again, it is still comfortable to walk in. Overall, I find these new Vibe WP boots to be more robust overall than previous similar boots by TCX. I’ve panned shorter lace boots like this before that felt like nothing more than a glorified sneaker, but these boots really do feel more substantial.

Overall, very nice boots that have some significant protective features. And they are a boot you can get comfortable with both on the bike :: Paul, 01-05-17
