Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these pants and the waist band measurements match the stated pant size. I’d advise you to take a measurement of your waist to see how big you are. Many jeans are “vanity sized” meaning they measure out bigger than their stated size, so if you order based upon your jeans size alone, you might get a pair that is too small. Also measure a bit higher on your waist just under the navel because motorcycle pants like this ride a little higher on your body than most jeans. These pants are designed as overpants which means you’ll have the option to wear them over street clothes, so when you measure, you’ll want to measure over the clothes you anticipate wearing under them.

The inseam on the pants is about 34” for pants in the middle of the size range, 33” for the smaller sizes and 35” for the larger sizes. The knee armor is HIGHLY adjustable in the pants so you will be able to adjust the armor to hit your kneecap correctly when seated on the bike (motorcycle pant knee armor will fall below the idea position when standing so don’t judge the position while standing). And the pants are constructed to facilitate easy hemming. You could shorten the leg ends 4” or so with little trouble. What a nice feature!

Our Two Cents

The Newport pant by Olympia is VERY similar in function as the Airglide 4 pants, but is Olympia’s “entry level” version. The shell material in these pants is a lighter version material and the knee armor is a “memory foam” type armor as compared to a more rugged type armor in the Airglide, but both versions of armor are CE rated. Please forgive a bit of copy/paste below from our recent review of the Airglide 4. All the key features are the same on these two pants except for the “heft” of the shell materials. We also note that the Newport pants are slightly less baggy than the Airglide 4 pants which may be welcome if you have a slim build, but the key measurements for the waist are the same.

The Newport pants will work great for summer/spring/fall use, and they are built as a full “overpant’ meaning they have long side zippers so you can step into/out of them without taking off your street clothes or boots, so they are idea for everyday street riders on the way to a destination or commuters going to work. You could even wear a pant like this over work/dress clothes to keep your nice clothes clean.

Over half the surface area of these pants is flow through mesh, so you’ll find these to be comfortable for about three seasons of the year. In the heat of summer, you could wear them over shorts or underwear and get full flow. In the spring and fall, you can layer underneath with your street clothes and you could even wear the rain liner (under or over) to block wind.

The seat and knees of the pants are made of traditional textile material which improves the crash worthiness of the pants. The pants come with a set of hip armor and also knee armor. The knee armor is fully adjustable for height so you can make them fit correctly on you.

The pants come with a rain liner. The pants are designed to be “over or under” meaning you can wear them over the pants or underneath. A lot of summer pants come with a removable rain liner than zips into the waist and is designed to go only underneath, so the “over or under” concept is a unique feature to Olympia. Looking at the design of the rain liner, I think you’ll opt to wear them over the pants in case of rain or to use them as a wind block. I say that for two reason… firstly, the rain pants don’t have a full length zipper like the pants and so you’ll lose the “overpant” functionality if you wear them under. Also wearing them over in the rain will keep the pants dry (as well as everything in your pockets).

Other nice features I see: are zip close hand pockets in front and two hip pockets with a Velcro close flap; side waist adjusters; night time reflectives so you’ll be better seen at night. Take the link to our photo gallery to see those. :: Paul, 11-30-17
