Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these pants and the waist band measurements match the stated pant size. I’d advise you to take a measurement of your waist to see how big you are. Many jeans are “vanity sized” meaning they measure out bigger than their stated size, so if you order based upon your jeans size alone, you might get a pair that is too small. Also measure a bit higher on your waist just under the navel because motorcycle pants like this ride a little higher on your body than most jeans. These pants are designed as overpants which means you’ll have the option to wear them over street clothes, so when you measure, you’ll want to measure over the clothes you anticipate wearing under them.

The inseam on the pants is about 34 to 35” for pants in the middle of the size range, 33-34” for the smaller sizes and 35-36” for the larger sizes. The knee armor is HIGHLY adjustable in the pants so you will be able to adjust the armor to hit your kneecap correctly when seated on the bike (motorcycle pant knee armor will fall below the idea position when standing so don’t judge the position while standing). And the pants are constructed to facilitate easy hemming. You could shorten the leg ends 4” or so with little trouble. What a nice feature!

Our Two Cents

The Dakar pants are a almost full mesh pant for summer time use. The styling is more “adventure” than many and they can converted to shorts for off-the-bike wear. Knee and hip armor included.

Note about naming: This Dakar pant has been around for about 5 years in the Olympia line and since we just recently took on the Olympia line we added these pants also. There is now a Dakar 2 jacket which is is a four season, serious touring/adventure jacket. Even those these pants share the same name as the new Dakar 2, they aren’t make to go with one another.

Like Olympia’s Airglide 4 pants, over half the surface area of these pants is flow through mesh, so you’ll find these to be comfortable for warm to hot conditions, you could wear them over shorts or underwear and get full flow. In the spring and fall, you can layer underneath with your street clothes to extend the usable temp range.

The seat and knees of the pants are made of traditional textile material which improves the crash worthiness of the pants. The pants come with a set of hip armor and also knee armor. The knee armor is fully adjustable for height so you can make them fit correctly on you. Also note that the length of the pants is easily hem-able, so those with shorter statures can use the standard pant if you want to take them to a tailor.

The styling of the Dakar is more rugged and has a the look of many adventure or dual sport pants with the cargo style pockets in front and wider legs (for wider boots). Take a look at the photo gallery to see how the pockets work. Those patch pockets are actually two pockets in one. And you get two rear seat pockets too.

The pants have side zippers up to the knee so you could use them as overpants with normal size boots (maybe not with heavy off road boots). And note that the pants convert to shorts. I wouldn’t recommend using them on a motorcycle as shorts, but this would be useful for travelers that think they could use them as summer shorts for wear off the bike. It might be a welcome thing in hot summer days when you stop to take break.

Other nice features I see are zip close hand pockets in front and two hip pockets with a Velcro close flap. Its nice to have those positive closures on pockets on motorcycle gear so you don’t lose your stuff! Also, the pants have night time reflectives so you’ll be better seen at night. Take the link to our photo gallery to see those. :: Paul, 10-26-17
