Sizing Information

We measured a selection of sizes in this pant and found them to run larger than expected. The pants are sold in waist sizes, and the waist size measures out about 4” larger than the stated size. Most jeans will measure out about 2” larger than their stated sizes because most manufacturers nowadays use “vanity” sizing. But four inches larger means that these pants are measuring out about one size larger than they should even allowing for some vanity sizing.

So, if you are choosing a size based upon your actual waist measurement, you’ll want to choose a size that is 4” smaller than your measurement. If you are choosing based upon your ordinary jean’s size, then choose one size smaller. The pants have some elastic in the front and sides and they also have side adjustment tabs, so you can snug down the waist size fit of these pants by a good amount with those side adjustment tabs.

The inseam on all the sizes we measured came in right about 33” or 34” (the material stretches a bit so it hard to be precise). The knee armor in the pants is adjustable up or down some.

Our Two Cents

These CoolPro II mesh pants by Fly Racing are designed for street riders that want a pant with protection but want to be comfortable in the hottest weather. This pant is largely mesh material in the upper thigh and rear lower leg areas. The upper thigh is where you get the most wind blast in a pant and so these pants should move a lot of air.

These pants could be used as “stand alone” mesh riding pants (worn over underwear), or you could use them as overpants as well. But they don’t have the long side zippers like true overpants, so if you plan to wear them over jeans or shorts, just be aware that you’ll probably have to take your boots off to get the pants off.

The pants come with a removable waterproof/windproof liner you can install inside the pants if you get caught in rain. As new, the liner comes stored in a small nylon pouch you can tuck away somewhere for emergency use. The liner looks to be effective, but the material used is thin so please don’t try pushing a boot through the pants as you’ll probably rip something. The liner being thin means you have to be careful with it, but it also means it will tuck away in such a small space.

The pants come with CE molded armor in the knees and removable hip armor (simple foam). And the height of the armor is adjustable inside the leg, so you can move it to fit well when you are in the riding position. Knee armor hangs down lower than idea when you are just standing, so adjust the height based upon the fit while sitting.

Have a look at our photo gallery to see some other features such as the pockets, side waist adjustments, ankle zipper and jacket connection zipper. The jacket connection zipper is made to be compatible with Fly jackets, but they give you the mating half of the zipper so it would be a simple matter to get a tailor to install the mating zipper in a jacket you own. :: Paul, 09-12-17
