Sizing Information

We bought samples of these jackets and measured them and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. For European sized jackets, you can generally just subtract 10 points from the size to get the corresponding US chest size. But REV’IT’s published size chart indicates that their jackets are sized a bit smaller… especially in the larger size ranges. So using the chart, we put a 54 on Huey and a 58 on Dewey (typically they’d wear a 42 and 46 US size), and the sizes we chose worked out very well. Both look and fit great (click the “View Larger Images” link above to see).

So, after measuring and trying on, we conclude that REV’IT’s size chart is accurate. Choose a size based upon your chest measurement. For those in the smaller size ranges, the size chosen will be the same size as in other well known European sized jackets such as Alpinestars, but in the larger size ranges, you’ll be choosing one size larger than you might normally choose.

Below is the REV’IT-published US chest sizes for each jacket size along with our estimate of max waist/belly. We include a waist/belly measurement because if you have some belly, then you will want to make sure you are buying a jacket that is large enough to accommodate you. Those with a waist that is trimmer than the chart indicates for their chest size can use the adjustment straps to customize the fit with no problem. A jacket like this looks great with the waist adjusters in a bit.

Our Two Cents

The Ignition 2 by REV’IT is a leather/mesh combo, which living in the drier part of the country like I do, is one of my favorites. I have always liked the idea of leather as being the material between me and a moving surface of asphalt. Just the thought of it makes me cringe. But leather has always been THE material of choice for maximum protection from road rash. The trouble with leather used to be how uncomfortably hot it was in the summer. But now there a lot of very good designs that mix leather with lighter, more breathable materials to make a jacket that will work well for three seasons. I guess spring/summer/fall for those further north, and fall/winter/spring for those in the southern states?... Anyway, the textile materials used (the material other than the leather), are of two sorts. The material on the front and back of the torso, I can blow air right through, but the weave is a bit tighter than we see on full-mesh jackets. The material is a bit “firmer” too and it feels like to me it would be a notch above most breathable materials for crash protection. And although the material used in the undersides of the arms looks identical, it does not flow air. So in warm weather, the wind blows through the torso material and then you use the nifty sleeve zipper vents to shoot some air up the arms. Take a look at our close-up photos of this feature because a picture says a thousand words. So the combo of the flow-thru torso and sleeve vents will take you through all but the hottest weather. Then in cooler weather, you can use one or both of the removable liners. First, there is a full sleeve waterproof/breathable/windproof liner. It will block air flow from your skin and also keep you dry in case of an unexpected rain (if you expect it, for heavens sake put on a rain jacket and protect this beautiful jacket!). The use of the liner will keep you comfortable in cool to mild weather. And then finally, when it cools even further, you can add the vest type liner for added insulation of your torso. The zipper arrangement allows for you to use the vest/thermal liner without the full sleeve liner too, which in mild conditions would be great and would decrease the thickness of materials in the arms. Anyway, the choices are there and you’ll soon figure out what works best for you. Of course you get CE armor in the shoulders and elbows. There is a pocket for the addition of optional CE-certified back protection. The jacket can be paired with REV’IT pants too. There is a short rear zipper or a long zipper for attachment; see the link for the Gear 2 pants below. The overall fit and function of this jacket is for sport, street, sport touring etc. The overall cut is a bit relaxed so it will be comfortable and practical for the road (unlike more sporty race-oriented gear). Overall, I just love the security of the jacket and pant combo of this style. It would be my choice if I were writing a check for one of those fancy German bikes and heading out for a long tour (oh well, keep dreaming!). :: Paul, 10-03-12

Note About Back Armor: This jacket is equipped with a thin foam back pad (more of a placeholder than protection). As an option, you can purchase a CE certified back protector. For this jacket, choose type KN, Size 106 (for all men’s size jackets)
