Sizing Information

This jacket style has a sport cut. It fits similarly to sport styles like most Alpinestars or REVIT, which is more trim and snug. We measured each style and developed the chart below to help you choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurement. Most people will choose the size they normally wear in men’s clothing. If you find yourself between sizes, I’d encourage you to order the larger.

The waist/belly in this style runs about standard for a sport style. The max belly runs about 4” less than the chest. The jackets have side waist adjusters to help you customize the fit is your waist is smaller than what the chart indicates.

Size Max Chest Max Belly
Small 40 36
Medium 42 38
Large 44 40
XL 46 42
XXL 50 46
XXXL 54 50
XXXXL 58 54

Note: This chart mirrors Fly’s official size chart for sizes XL and above, but shows larger sizes than Fly’s chart for smaller sizes. Their chart for the smaller sizes is not accurate.

Our Two Cents

The Fly Racing AirRaid jacket is a sport style jacket for hot weather use. A good portion of the jacket is full mesh which means the air flow through this jacket will be excellent. The jacket has solid textile materials used over the shoulders and over the elbows to add some structure and to improve its ability to protect you against abrasion in case of a fall. I notice the zippers at the sleeves are “two way” and double as arm vents to allow a bit more airflow up the sleeves.

The overall styling of this jacket looks sharp, and the fit is sporty (see my comments above on fit). The colors and style reminds me very much of Alpinestars jackets. I like the accents they’ve created with the reflective materials on the front and back.

The jacket has the standard armor setup… CE protectors in the shoulders and elbows and a thin foam back pad. But it also has some additional foam pads in the chest area (much like Alpinestars) The elbow and shoulder armor is good stuff and the chest pads are OK, but we recommend the D3O for a back protector upgrade (see below) to beef up the back protection. The foam pad that comes with the jacket would only offer minimal protection. This jacket has a short rear zipper for attachment to Fly pants and there is also a loop you can use to anchor the tail down to your belt if you aren’t wearing motorcycle-specific pants.

You can adjust the fit if this jacket with the waist/velcro tabs at the waist and also the snaps on the sleeves. You can tighten the sleeves up to help hold the elbow armor in position and to reduce any wind flap. Check out our photo gallery for other fine details such as the location of the pockets and such. Overall I like the looks of this jacket and the build quality looks good too. Its a sharp style for the very reasonable price. :: Paul, 09-12-17

Add an upgraded back protector?: This jacket comes with a simple foam back pad and Fly doesn’t offer a CE rated upgrade, but I find that our most popular upgrade back protector by D3O fits the mesh pocket in this style very well. The men’s size Back pad in either Level 1 or 2 fits both men’s and women’s (the women’s size back pad is too small for the women’s jacket pocket, so get the men’s there too). You could get level 2, but for a general duty jacket like this, I think the Level 1 upgrade will be most comfortable and practical.
