Sizing Information

We found the fit of these vests to be essentially the same as the very similar Quick and the Dead vest, we’ll go with the same advice for choosing a size: Wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. If you are between sizes I’d advise you to go down. There isn’t a lot of taper from the chest to the waist, so there shouldn’t be concerns with fit if you have a bit of a belly. The large side leather adjustment straps can take up a lot of the slack, so those with a trim waist will look good too.

The chart provided by Speed and Strength shows chest sizes for each alpha size that are a bit larger than what you’d normally see for “standard” conversion from chest size to alpha size. Based on my observations (above), the chart seems just about right.

Size Small Medium Large XL 2XL 3XL 4XL
Chest 38-40 40-42 42-45 46-48 49-52 53-56 57-60

Our Two Cents

This new True Grit armored vest is basically a textile version of the Quick and the Dead vest. This vest also has the gun holster included. The vest comes in either black or brown canvas with leather trim around the neck, arm holes and shoulders and on the sides of the adjuster straps.

This vest looks sharp and the overall quality of the vest is great. The side Velcro adjusters are well engineered, so not only do they look good, but they work well to fit the vest to your body. There are thick raised padded areas on the front and the back and a removable back pad is included. Despite the implication of the product name, this is NOT armored in the ballistics sense, but this external armor and the included back pad make it “armored” with respect to motorcycling.

Included with the vest is the LARGE “Armed Response” open carry side holster (detachable). We’ve put in several pics to give you the idea. Of course people are particular about holsters and such and admittedly I’m not a “gun guy” so I can’t comment from experience, but the holster is a very heavy duty unit with a LOT of adjustability. :: Paul, 02-12-17

Note: There are two main differences between this vest and its leather cousin, the Quick and the Dead vest. This one isn’t set up for adding club “colors” on the back as it has the raised padding instead and there are no inside gun pockets.
