Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this vest on Huey and we put an XL vest on Dewey. We also spot checked a few sizes with tape. Our basic advice is to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Fitting a vest is mostly about how the belly area fits you, so I put together the chart below to show you how big the vests are through the midsection. The chest estimate below from Speed and Strength’s standard chart. I found the max belly for each size to be about 4” less than the max chest estimates. When you choose a size, just make sure it is big enough for your belly. The vests have side adjusters to bring down the fit through the midsection. They’ll adjust down about 6” total, so there is a wide range of adjustment to make make these vest work well for slender people too.

Size Max Chest Max Belly
Small 40 36
Medium 42 38
Large 44 40
XL 48 44
XXL 52 48
XXXL 56 52
XXXXL 58 54

Our Two Cents

This Critical Mass vest offers something unique in an armored vest…. stretch fabric. Some vests are leather and some are denim, but this one uses a black stretch material which gives a higher tech or urban look.

The styling is definitely aggressive and comparable to the several leather vests we offer. And the vest has a number of “anatomical” raised padded areas to give a more muscled look. Those small pads are filled with dense foam material, so they’d actually be more than cosmetic in a fall. The vest also comes with a standard Speed and Strength back pad (removable). It is a decent feeling back pad… definitely better than standard foam.

There are two zip pockets in front and one inside zip pocket. And in back, there are two snap-close loops you can use to attach the tail of the vest to your jean’s belt.

Overall, I like the look and feel of this vest. It has an aggressive look without going full leather. :: Paul, 03-07-18
