Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit great. My advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

If you look at Icon’s chest size estimates for each jacket, you might be choosing a size larger than you normally wear (example a person with a 46 chest typically is an XL, but using Icon’s chart you’d buy an XXL).

My personal advice for a good fit that is snug enough not to flap or inflate while riding would be to buy the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. We’ve added a column to the table below to give you our estimate of max chest and belly size for each jacket size.

The styling of this jacket is “relaxed” as compared to other motorcycle jackets and the taper from chest to waist is minimal, and therefore belly size won’t be a problem for most. But if you have a bit of a belly, you’ll want to get a measurement and make sure to choose a jacket large enough to work.

I found the body and sleeves of this jacket to run on the average to longer side. Those who are taller will like this. Also, the fit of the shoulders felt a bit trim as compared to some other Icon jackets. So generally speaking, I think those with a tall/trim build will like this style better than a person with a stocky build with shorter arms and torso.

Our Two Cents

These new Wireform jackets offer a few new features I’ve not seen before, and I like the looks of it. I encourage you to look at the close up pictures in our gallery. The main body is made up of a variety of textile materials that have a sharp look. The “wireform” name I suppose describes the main body textile material which resembles wire mesh. It feels really sturdy like other abrasion resistant materials used in motorcycle apparel.

The jacket has the usual D3O armor setup all around which is the standard for Icon gear these days. D3O is super popular and has CE certifications and all. It is pliable and energy absorbing and in recent years has become the “standard” for several brands.

You see a lot of “high design” features all over this jacket. The big rubberized “I” logo on the front is sharp and even has reflective material built in. And there is a smaller version of this on the back just below the collar. Above the elbows are expansion panels that give a bit of flexibility and on the shoulders is some retro-looking quilted material.

The way the sleeves are cut at the ends is interesting and feels good. They are angled so you can flex your wrist while operating the controls and it feels a bit more natural and the cuff doesn’t get in the way of the movement as much. I like this! Those sleeve ends have a band of neoprene as does the edge of the collar which is always a welcome thing for comfort.

Another thing I like is the satin-like texture of the removable thermal liner. It’s slippery silver and you can put it on and take it off over sleeves without it grabbing. Speaking of the liner, you can use this in colder weather for some warmth. The shell is solid textile and doesn’t have venting features, so I think this jacket will do great in cold to warm weather (but not hot weather).

Overall, I think this new style is sharp and modern looking. Check my sizing advice… if you have a “normal” to tall/slim build you’ll like the overall cut. :: Paul, 03-02-16
