Sizing Information

Choose the size you’d normally buy in men’s clothing. The manufacturer provides this chart you can use to select a size based upon your chest measurements. We find the chart is a pretty good representation of actual fit. These jackets do not taper much at all and have a relaxed fit. Also the fabric is somewhat stretchy. The belly shouldn’t be a problem for most

Size Max Chest
Small 36-38
Medium 38-40
Large 42-44
XL 44-46
XXL 46-48
XXXL 48-50
XXXXL 52-54

Our Two Cents

Icon makes a number of graphic styles in the Merc jacket. All the jackets are physically the same, so I’ll give you some information on the nuts and bolts and then you can choose the graphic that suits you best.

The shell of the Icon Merc jacket is made mostly of a heavy stretch material that feels a bit like neoprene. The stretch capability makes it one of the most easy-to-move-in jackets I’ve tried on in a while. The overall fit is relaxed so finding the right size is pretty easy. Most can just choose the size they normally wear in men’s clothing. To beef up the skid resistance of this style, Icon has added some textile reinforcement over the shoulder area (but none in the elbow area).

The jacket is fitted with D3O armor throughout which is good stuff. It is soft and pliable and very appropriate for a jacket like this. You even get a D3O back pad, so there is nothing else to buy. One feature with the armor that is unique is the ability too adjust the up-down position of the elbow armor in the sleeve. Just pull the sleeve inside out and you’ll see how you can put the armor insert into one of three pockets to adjust position to suit your arm length.

This jacket has some venting in the arm pit area, but that’s about it. You can layer under the jacket to add insulation in colder temps, so this jacket could work down to cold temps (with your own undergarments) and be comfortable in warmer weather too with the aid of those pit vents. So I’d say this one is 2 to 3 season for most. Note the bungee cord sewn into the lower hem of the jacket and also the elastic cuff at the end of the sleeve. Those two features will help you seal out cold air in the winter, and those sleeve end cuffs are super comfortable.
