Sizing Information

We checked the fit on these jackets with our size mannequins and we also spot checked a few different size jackets with a tape. We feel this model runs true to size. The jackets are sold in ordinary “alpha” sizes, so you can choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

For those that want to check the size based upon their chest measurement, I put together the chart below. If you check Cortech’s website, you’ll find a slightly different chart than the one below. Long story short, the chart on Cortech’s site has been changed multiple times over the last few years, and they can’t seem to decide on the best chart for conversion… but this is not a difficult jacket to fit and my chart should work just fine for you.

The overall cut of this jacket is ideal for street and touring riding. It is more relaxed through the torso and not as “forward leaning” as a sport bike/race jacket. If you have a bit of a belly, you might want to check to make sure the jacket you choose will be big enough in the waist/belly. The max belly for any given size is about 4” less than the max chest in the chart. For example, a size XL has a 46” chest and a 42” max belly.

Alpha Size Max Chest Size Sleeve Length
XS 38 25
Small 40 25.5
Medium 42 26.5
Large 44 226.5
XL 46 27
XXL 48 27.5
XXXL 51 27.5
XXXXL 54 28

Our Two Cents

This new VRX jacket by Cortech offers a lot of functionality in its price bracket. I talked about sizing above, and it should be pretty simple for most people which is nice, especially when you buy mail order.

This style is a straightforward textile design and is best suited for the middle of the temp spectrum… from warm to cold. It’s a solid textile shell and it has a built in rainproof barrier that is installed between the jacket’s outer shell and the inside mesh lining. For the warmer end of the range of temps, the jacket has some average size vents on the front and large exhaust vents in the rear. These vents will flow some air and do a pretty good job, but since the jacket has the rain barrier feature, that incoming air won’t reach all the way through to your skin, so the effect is moderated; that is why I say the range is through “warm” and not hot. For cold weather though, you get a full sleeve removable liner and along with the windproof shell and waterproof lining, the jacket should do a good job in cool or cold weather… and of course wet weather.

The jacket has a nice set of CE approved armor, but it is a lighter weight and thinner type than what we see in a lot of textile styles these days… it is a hard shell plastic over foam design that is super light and thin which works well in a lighter weight jacket. You probably won’t even notice it. The back pad is simple foam.

Other nice little things I noted are the fleece/neoprene collar which should be comfy and there are several raised/padded areas for a bit more impact protection and some added styling.

Overall, this jacket gives a good deal of functionality and climate control in an inexpensive package. The styling is sharp and the fit is easy. :: Paul, 12-12-14

Note about close-up gallery photos: We used the Black/Gun/White jacket for our photos and for some reason, the Gun portion of the jacket looks brownish. Please overlook this… the Gun is just a medium Grey color. Even though the color came out a little funky, the pictures do a great job of showing you all the little features of this jacket.
