Sizing Information

These jackets are sold in US based “alpha” sizes, so selecting a size is basically pretty easy. For most people, you would choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. Alpinestars publishes a super-complicated size chart which can be used to pick a size based upon your chest and waist. We’ve condensed their chart down to make it easy to read (see below). The waist and upper arms are adjustable with Velcro tabs. Overall this should be a very easy style to fit.

Jacket Size Chest Range Waist/Belly Range
Small 37.5 to 39 31 to 32.5
Medium 40 to 41.5 33.5 to 35
Large 42 to 43.5 36 to 37.5
XL 44.5 to 46 38 to 40
XXL 47 to 49 40.5 to 42
XXXL 49 to 51 43 to 44.5
XXXXL 51.5 to 53 45 to 47

Our Two Cents

About two years back I reviewed the Gunner jacket, and just this month Alpinestars introduced an updated version of the jacket called, uh, the Gunner jacket. We appended the name of this jacket with ”- 2015” so you’d be able to tell the difference in the versions. The styling of course is updated some, but otherwise this new version is VERY similar to the 2012 version. Here is a portion of my product comments from the previous version, mostly regarding climate control and armor, which are also applicable to this jacket.

This jacket is a good looking jacket that will work great in mild to cold weather and/or wet weather. The jacket has a pretty standard abrasion-resistant textile shell that has been treated to be water resistant. And then the second line of defense against water intrusion is a waterproof liner on the inside of the jacket. This type of lining does a great job because there are no penetrations in the lining to allow water to come through. This jacket has a couple shoulder vents and one rear exhaust vent which will work just a bit in warmer weather, but the airflow will only reach past the shell into the area between the outer shell and interior lining, so the overall effect will be pretty minimal, hence my recommendation that this jacket is best for mild to cold weather. Speaking of cold weather, it comes with an insulated liner to provide some insulation in colder temps. For protection you get CE protectors in the shoulders and elbows and foam pads for the back and chest (upgradable, see below). We’ve taken some “night” shots so you can see the reflective areas in action which will make you more visible at night. Just take the “View Larger Images” link above to see all those close-up pics including the night shots and fit check shots.

I envision this jacket being a good choice for urban riders and just every day street riders. It’s a shorter waist design that is lighter than a lot of the full-on touring styles and it will be convenient to throw on for short trips. And the styling is very nice too. The overall cut is “trim” and the colors give it a distinct “Euro” look. Paul :: 9-10-14
