Sizing Information

The overall fit of this jacket is very “standard”. We checked some sizes against our Joe Rocket/Power Trip size chart and found the estimated chest sizes to be accurate. We also tried on a Medium and XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey and they look great (view those shots by taking the View Larger Images link above). Therefore, I recommend you choose the size jacket you normally wear in men’s clothing. You can use the chart to choose if you know your chest size.

This jacket has a wide range of adjustment through the mid-section. There are two side adjusters that work well. In their wide-open position, they will allow for a belly, but they can also be snugged up by several inches for flat bellies. The “drop” from chest to waist on this style is about 4” which is a very standard cut. For example, a size Large has a max chest of about 44” and the max belly is about 40”.

Just an FYI… 2015 and newer Power Trip jackets share the same fit as Joe Rocket jackets (generally speaking), and so if you know your sizing in any more recent Joe Rocket designs, you’ll likely find the same fit in this jacket.

Our Two Cents

Power Trip is back in the game for 2015 with some new street style jackets. The Power Trip brand has always been manufactured by the same folks that make Joe Rocket gear, and the Power Trip line is styled more for cruiser riders. General styling aside, the similarities in the products has always been apparent to me, and beginning in 2015 there is an even closer association.

This new Gauge jacket is a full mesh street jacket with “blacked out” styling to appeal to those who like cruiser/retro bikes. The entire jacket is a mesh material that allows air to blow right through. The mesh material used in this jacket is about as loose weave (which means maximum air flow) as it gets, so consider this jacket when encountering extreme heat. To help extend the jacket’s comfort range, you get a removable wind/waterproof liner. The liner works great on cool mornings to take the chill off and can be easily removed and stored when it warms up. This liner has a main front zipper of its own so it can also be worn separately as a light jacket (handy when trying to pack light on a trip).

For crash protection the jacket comes with removable CE approved shoulder and elbow armor and a dual density back pad. There is also some exterior padding on the sides of the jacket that offers some extra protection as well as some added styling. For added nighttime visibility there is a liberal amount of reflective piping on this jacket that runs across the front and back, and down both sleeves. We took a couple “night shots” for our photo gallery so you could check this out.

The overall design of this jacket is a classic…. literally it’s a classic because it is basically a Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 jacket but without the logos and this one has a mandarin (stand collar) rather than the more sport oriented banded collar on the Phoenix. So if you see a cruiser style in a hot weather mesh jacket that has a time-proven design, you are in the right place! :: Paul, 04-13-15
