Sizing Information

We checked the fit on these jackets with our size mannequins and we also spot checked a few different size jackets with a tape. We feel this model runs true to size. The jackets are sold in ordinary “alpha” sizes, so you can choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

For those that want to check the size based upon their chest measurement, I put together the chart below. If you check Cortech’s website, you’ll find a slightly different chart than the one below. Long story short, the chart on Cortech’s site has been changed multiple times over the last few years, and they can’t seem to decide on the best chart for conversion… but this is not a difficult jacket to fit and my chart should work just fine for you.

The overall cut of this jacket is ideal for street and touring riding. It is more relaxed through the torso and not as “forward leaning” as a sport bike/race jacket. If you have a bit of a belly, you might want to check to make sure the jacket you choose will be big enough in the waist/belly. The max belly for any given size is about 4” less than the max chest in the chart. For example, a size XL has a 46” chest and a 42” max belly.

Alpha Size Max Chest Size Sleeve Length
XS 38 25
Small 40 25.5
Medium 42 26.5
Large 44 226.5
XL 46 27
XXL 48 27.5
XXXL 51 27.5

Our Two Cents

I recently did a review of Cortech’s VRX jacket, and now they’ve introduced this VRX Air jacket. As you might guess, this is essentially the mesh version of the same style. And being a mesh jacket, the jacket is intended for primarily hot weather. The vast majority of the shell is mesh, so the wind should flow through this jacket easily.

This jacket includes a removable full-sleeve wind and rain proof liner too. A liner like this is thin and can pack away easily when not in use. When you install it in the jacket, it will act as a wind barrier so it will extend the useful temperature range of the mesh jacket down a few notches so you’ll be comfortable at times when things cool off a bit. I’m thinking of early mornings, or mountain passes…that sort of thing. Also, the liner is rainproof and will keep your torso and arms dry in case of a rain.

The jacket has a nice set of CE approved armor, but it is a lighter weight and thinner type than what we see in a lot of textile styles these days… it is a hard shell plastic over foam design that is super light and thin which works well in a lighter weight jacket. You probably won’t even notice it. The back pad is simple foam.

There are other nice features in this jacket of note… the fleece/neoprene collar which should be comfy. There is also a lot of size adjustment… Velcro tabs at the waist and also some stretch material too, so you can get a good fit. And the arms have some simple Velcro close tabs to help adjust the sleeve size to your arm which will help hold the armor in place.

I think the overall styling of this jacket is sharp, but not too crazy, and the color combos ought to appeal to just about anybody. Considering the price, I think this is a “can’t go wrong” workhorse summer jacket. :: Paul, 07-01-15
