HJC Cheek Pads for CS-R2 Helmets
- Riders will sometimes need to change the cheek pads that come installed in their helmets. Some people need a little more or less space, while others simply need to install a fresh set of pads for better comfort (and smell)
- The pads both come out and can be installed quite easily
- Use the chart below to figure out what size cheek pad you currently have based on your helmet size, and then pick a replacement set based on your need
This one is a little bit complicated. HJC recently determined that the CS-R2 helmet was fitting too loose in the cheek pad area, so they have increased the cheek pad size by 5mm for each size offered. There is no definite cut off date between the old and the new cheek pad sizes, plus both the old and new versions of the pad will work in your helmet, so long as you pay attention to the shell size information I’m listing below. You can determine which size pad you have by pulling out one of the cheek pads, the mm thickness is listed on the white label near the bottom snap. If you like how that pad fits but just want a replacement, you can get one in the same thickness. If you feel like the pad is too loose, you can purchase a thicker pad.
Use this table to determine what cheek pad size you will be able to use in your helmet, listed by helmet and shell size (see my notes above to figure out which one came in your helmet):
|Helmet Size||Shell Size||Original Cheek Pad Size||New Version Cheek Pad Size|
You can buy the same thickness of cheek pad if you like the fit of your helmet and just need a replacement set. Or you can buy a different thickness cheek pad to adjust fit as long as you buy a pad to fit the same shell size. The cheek pads for the XS, Small and Medium helmets are interchangeable since those three sizes share the medium helmet shell size. Likewise, the cheek pads for the Large, XL and XXL helmets are interchangeable since they all share the XXL shell size. The only exception to this rule is with the 25 mm (original version) or 30mm (new version) cheek pads, which fit both shell sizes.
Changing cheek pads to change the helmet fit: To get MORE room in your helmet, you need to buy a THINNER cheek pad. To get a TIGHTER fit, you need to buy a THICKER cheek pad.
