Our Two Cents

When you are looking for an open face helmet you might notice that they all start to look the same. Well, Scorpion has taken the basic ¾ helmet and bumped it up to the next level with the EXO-CT220. At first glance it might look like just an average ¾ helmet but once you start really looking at the helmet you will notice it comes with a lot of great features you don’t see with a lot of other open face helmets. Safety is always key when helmet shopping and the EXO-CT220 offers some nice little features that are hard to miss when looking at photos online. The emergency release system in the cheek pads is one of those features. This allows the cheek pads to be pulled out of the helmet with the helmet still on the rider’s head. In the event of a crash the paramedics are going to want to keep your head as still as possible to prevent any injuries while pulling your helmet off. The emergency release system does just that. The helmet does not come with a chin bar, so the face shield and helmet will flex more when impacted. To help prevent the shield from shifting left or right, and popping off the helmet has little “wings” the shield fits into to help keep it in place. The CT220 has two front vents and four rear vents that channel heat out the back of the helmet. If that is not enough air flow for you then you can remove the face shield all together and replace it with a peak visor that comes standard in the box. The drop down Speedview Sunvisor has an adjustment screw that allows you to customize how far the sunvisor drops down. This is a new feature that allows the rider to tailor the helmet to their personal needs. I really would like to see more companies copy this idea. A lot of people run into an issue with the fit of Scorpion helmets, and have to order up a size. Scorpion helmets do tend to fit a little on the narrow side. This does not seem to be the case with the CT220. I would say the shape is going to be more of a typically North American head shape in the intermediate oval. Overall I really think Scorpion did a great job on this helmet by adding great features and keeping the price down. -Aaron 09/09/14
