Our Two Cents

At first glance the N20 helmet by Nolan seems pretty standard for a three-quarter helmet. The first thing I noticed when I put on the N20 was the shape of the shell. Typically I am a medium in most brands (HJC, Shoei, Icon…etc). When wearing the N20 I found the shell to be a little tight back to front and a bit wider from side to side. So I have to say this helmet has a round shape; my head is a more narrow oval. Our friend over at WebBikeWorld does very comprehensive reviews on helmet shapes. So those of you who have a more oval or narrow head shape might want to choose a different helmet. If you have a more round head this could be your next helmet. On to the features… open face helmets are pretty simple but there are some pretty cool features to point out. The chin strap has a nice leather cover which makes wearing the helmet very comfortable. It also comes with the ratcheting quick release chin strap you find on all the Nolan helmets. This makes strapping in and getting out of the helmet quick and easy. The liner is very soft and has some mesh to help heat escape and air to flow around the top of your head. The liner is fully removable and washable. There isn’t any venting in the shell of the helmet, but hey it’s an open face helmet, so there really isn’t a need. The EPS liner does have some channels that run across the top and down the back side of the helmet. These channels help direct the heat out of the back of the helmet. The visor has very smooth action and is removable as well. It is held in place with a spring loaded base plate kit that is quick and easy to operate. Simply pop off the cover to the base plate, push in the latch and the shield pops right off. My only issue with the helmet is with the visor down it ends right in my field of vision. So I had to tilt my head down to see. Again, this is probably due to the shape of my head not being the best match for this helmet. All in all, it is a well-made helmet, and I really like the old school vibe, perfect with a vintage scooter. :: Aaron, 10-11-12
