Our Two Cents

We’ve carried a couple brands of heated gloves, but these new Joe Rocket gloves have got my vote now for the best value of the bunch. This glove has a neat setup. I like how the battery is stored away in the cuff and the control for the glove is located on the side of the cuff and easily manipulated even with a gloved finger. It is a simple button with a high/med/low/off operation.

The body of the glove is a nice looking textile and the palm has a bit of reinforcement in the main wear area (see the close up picture by taking the link above). The cuff is highly adjustable so you can make it play nice with different size jacket sleeves. On the index finger there is a patch of conductive leather in the finger pad area and also up and over the top of the finger so you can manipulate a smartphone or gps without taking off your glove. And presumably it will be COLD outside when you are wearing these gloves so not having to slip off a glove is a nice feature. These gloves don’t have any impact armor so the textile material of the glove is the only specific protection feature.

Each glove gets it own battery and the charger can charge up both batteries at one time. Each battery says, “7.4V, 2200mAh”, which I’m seeing is the same capacity as Mobile Warming… the other brand of heated glove we carry. These gloves have a waterproof liner to keep water out and “medium” Thinsulate insulation, which is an ideal thickness… thick enough to do some good, but not so “puffy” that feeling the controls is a problem.

I tried a pair on here in the office and WOW… I can really feel the heat. The heating elements spread the heat out evenly on the back of the hands and fingers. There are no elements on the palm… probably for practical reasons of durability. As for charging, you use the plug-in charger supplied which has two leads so you can charge both batteries simultaneously. There is an LED on the charger to tell you when charging is finished.

Each pair of gloves comes nicely packaged in a zip close pouch, and the batteries and charger are sealed. Please don’t un-package the batteries or charger until you have tried on the gloves and you’ve decided to keep them please. An owners manual is on a small tag on the gloves with a few good tips on their use… one in particular caught my eye, “Do Not Use While Sleeping”. Uh, OK!

Of course anybody could buy and use these gloves for themselves, but I think these would make a great gift for any motorcycle rider, snow sports enthusiast, those who go to sporting events… just about anybody who spends time outside in the cold. I really like this new product! :: Paul, 11-19-14

Common Q and A:

Question: I just received the pair of Joe Rocket Burner Gloves I ordered last week and I have a question regarding the batteries. When I opened the box with the charger and the two batteries, I noticed the batteries are tightly wrapped with blue plastic, yet the charging ports on both batteries are accessible.

My simple question is this: Do I take this wrapping off before I charge the batteries or is this blue plastic wrapping part of the battery and to leave it as is?

Answer: Please leave the plastic wrap on the batteries and use them as they are. The wrap just holds the charging plug and wires together for convenience.
